Winston Churchill wrote in his story of his escape from Boer captivity and the military expeditions to surpress Boer nationalism (From London to Ladysmith), that all war is waste and bullets are the cheapest item on the bill.

Massive waste, yes. But I am sure that Churchill would prefer the waste of materials and lives to the capitulation to foreign invasion that threatened Britain and had already swallowed much of Europe and North Africa

All the talk of Orwell's thoughts of war and it's causes are one thing but WWII is evidence that sometimes war (in general) is sometimes the only option. Nazi Germany didn't engage in war to keep the "common man" down, they didn't war because of corporate fat cats or profit, but for conquest.

Government is partially accountable. It is corporations which are not accountable to the population and have a top down structure which ensure the continuity between parliament change through excessive lobbying for greater and greater powers.
Corporations are legal entities within the country. They must like individuals obey the laws of the land. Corporations do have legal rights and responsibilities. Corporations and other interest groups lobby to make their concerns known to politicians. You are able to contact your MP and let him/her know your concerns and you are able to vote for the politician you think will do things that you want. Corporations are free to engage in legal activities too, you don't have to like what they do or what individuals do as long as no laws are broken.
