A federal cabinet minister rejected a request for a prison interview with former Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr even though the warden gave it a green light — a move some are denouncing as extraordinary political interference.

Documents obtained by The Canadian Press under the Access to Information Act show the warden of Millhaven Institution, where Khadr is in maximum security, approved the interview request made by the news agency in January, only to be overruled.

The refusal came from the office of Public Safety Minister Vic Toews to Correctional Service Canada (CSC), records show.

Is it common for the Public Safety Minister to meet with convicted inmates? Toews is far from one of my favourites, I think he's rather a tool to be honest, but I can understand not giving an audience just because it's requested. I can imagine if he did, the number of requests might multiply dramatically afterwards.

Mr Khadr's case is far from explained. I wonder if he will ever be permitted to speak. I wonder when the Canadian citizens still at large will not be allowed to speak.

It doesn't require one on one dialogue with the Federal Minister for Public Safety in order to 'speak'. Pretty sure the guy's got lawyers and they'll have the media tripping all over them.

The request was for an interview of Kadar by a reporter not an audience with the cabinet minister. But I don't really care. The less we hear from and about that a-sshole the better (Khadar not Toews although I don't care if I hear anything from Toews either quite frankly).

It wasn't about an interview between Kadhr and Towes. I really wish people would read the articles posted before shooting off their mouths.

It would pain me to see the lad succumb to a virus, poison or have a...god forbid, an unfortunate accident.

So how does one get acquitted of murder charges when one actually does commit murder?

Whether or not you choose to believe them, American terrorism specialists at Guantanamo are convinced Khadr is a high risk to return to his terrorist ways when released from prison.

Khadr several times while a detainee at the U.S. prisoner of war camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba expressed his devotion to a virulent brand of Islam that views Christians as infidels whom it is acceptable to kill in the name of Allah.
