I remember reading a story (fact or fiction, I do not recall...) wherein a father/priest/clergyman covered his face with a veil. The church goers grew increasingly suspicious of the priest's intentions or reasons for using the veil and it caused much grief for him...

Can anyone else help me identify this?

I dont have anything against small expressions of one's religion such as the skull cap or those top-knot turbans, that kind of thing. It's only when it starts to physically impair the teaching process. I am all for school uniforms too, but with a little flexibility in the rules.

I think totally obscuring the mouth is a nono... you need to see expressions. Having said that many large beards are flexible and transparent enough to see expressions anyway. It's up the teachers but for the best possible communication between teacher and pupil, both need to be able to see facial expressions. That's what school is about, communication.
