Hello,
I am living in Paris (France) and I have been many time in USA witch I had always loved.
Because of the architecture:big city with huge building and street.
Because of technology: nice cars, great TV or broadband.
Also because I feel like if USA is always awake: many shop are open 24H 7/7, in city like N.Y there is always someone everywhere, even at 4am.
And because of all the different person and stuff that you can found in this country:there is everything and more that you can imagine.

However there is bad stuff: sometime it is very very violent, and some american (many from what I saw) are very ignorant, witch can be very very scary. To give you an exemple: one day I guy told me if
I was seeing the pope frequenlty. I said why? He said back: well because of the vatican, the vatican is in Paris isn't it? I know it caus I'm a christian! I have thousand of story like that.
Of course there is many people in USA who know that the vatican is in spain (  ), but it is sure that there is many many american who are missing some stuff. Isn'it? I never heard some saying the opposite.

Wich doesn't make want to go to the USA for the moment.
So I was thinking of Canada.
Canada touch america, but I have never been there. I don't know anything about your citie, your technology or even yourself.

So I wanted to know. What make you different from you neighbor called USA?
Are you as violent? Do you have same tech level? Are your shop open 24? Do you have big building? Does any one of you know where is the vatican  ?

IMPORTANT EDIT:
when I read my message today, I really didn't feel like if it was the image of what I wanted to express. In fact it was horribly arrogant.
So here is an update, message you can found later on the topic:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also I would like to make clear that I have nothing against americain, most of the american that I saw were very nice and I love that.
Anyway I don't really believe you can say you hate a group of person who contain million of person and who are all "plus ou moin" different.
But I have to admit, and for this one I'm sure, that USA is more violent than France. I just read there were more killing in L.A than in all France. So when you come from a countrie where it is very rare to see someone having a weapons (exept policemen) it is a shock to see that the guy in front of your house got a luguage full of guns. Now, with all the problem about terrorist and stuff I feel afraid when I see that, like if everybodie were paranoid (=paranoiaque?). But it is just an other culture and I totaly accept it, the world is full of difference and that is very important. If some one have the right to handle biGs gUnZ, then he can do it and it is alright, even if personnaly I wouldn't (but who know? maybe if I were living there I would too).
Also, I have seen some public shool were the level of education was very poor, because they were too many, with not enough time
and not enough good books. In fact, because those public school hadn't enough money to do any good job.
But then? I doesn't mean that those who went in that school were dumbass (or then I'm a dumbass too, cause I have been in that school for a year, in fact I am dumbas, but for other reason). It just mean that they have certainly less knowdlege than someone who went in school were we work from 8am to 5pm.
But anyway, no one got the ultima knowdlege, I believe we just have less, or even less knowdlege. The life seems to be clearly to short to understand it.
The only problem, is that, apparently, if you don't know just the minimum about history, you can get brainwashed to easely.
If I said that, and if I said apparently, it is because I remember that one day, during the first days of the second Iraqui war, I have been insulted on IRC many time, and only because I was French. And then I discovered www.fuckfrance.com ->

However in USA you can found many, many, many great guys, some of them are extremly well cultivated, and some aren't, but they just let you give a try and don't judge you because of where you came from but because of who you are.
And maybe, to give you a happy ending, the typical american guy who call a frenchi a son of a bitch don't exist and is only an illusion of my stupidity. And I really hope so.

Canadians are a little more in touch with the world than Americans. We know that Paris is in France, that Europe is on the other side of the Atlantic and that Bonjour is a word in French. (Actually, you will find that a lot of Canadians on the Eastern side of the country are bilingual).

What the heck? The vatican in Spain?? It's common knowledge that the pope lives in the Czech Republik!

J'étais sarcastique -- tu sais que le pape n'habites pas dans la république tschèque.

To answer your question, Canada is:

- Economically connected immensely with the US
- Our cultures are similar, yet both have their unique differences.
- Canadians, I would consider, a lot more polite than Americans in a generalisation.

Well, hehe, I am from Western Canada and the whole French thing out here is generally something not very well recieved...

To be totally honest with you I am not a lover of French-Canadians (loooong story), I have some French-Canadian friends who are cool (kinda like you said you had American friends who were cool... which by the way I have as well) but on the whole I personally wish Quebec would float off the continent or sink or something. Just to rid Canada of their whining =p

However I have nothing really against France, heck my dad's side of the family are French immigrants xD My grandmother (on my dad's side) is from a royal French bloodline, and my grandparents on my mom's side are from English royalty (and damit if the princess that was my ancestor hadn't eloped with a palace guard I would STILL be in the bloodline =p). Kinda a wierd mix xD Also got Irish in me (red hair), 2 kings and 1 queen. Some common Scottish, and some German mennonite.

So yeah, just slightly multicultural in my heritage rofl.

However I hold the most loyalty to simply being Canadian, screw English-Canadian/French-Canadian. Just get rid of the legislation that divides us, make us truly equal as simply Canadians.

I am not anti-American, many people think if your Canadian you must be anti-American. This is a lie, I know very few people who hate America out here in Alberta. Sure we are pissed at the tariffs on softwood, and the BSE border closure, but we dont 'hate' them. We are frustrated.

I dunno, I guess Canada could be considered a more social version of the USA (although I am NOT socialist).

EDIT:

I posted this then read the last post regarding manners and being polite.. I totally agree. Simply because I work at a call center that supplies support for Comcast (American Cable and High Speed Internet Company) so I deal with Americans all the time. While many are totally nice there are still a great number (around 5-6 per day) that seem to be devoid of the act of mannerly phone convseration (much swearing, yelling, etc) whereas when working as support locally I recieved I think 2-3 nasty calls during a whole year.

That may simply be a regional thing however lol
