O Gerry, where have I gone astray?

Their power had grown after the end of the war of 1812 - 1815 and they managed to hold power until around 1848 when responsible government was final granted and fair election could be held.

You are correct.

The Rebellions 0f 1837, the Lord Durham Report, and the Act of Union of the Canadas in 1840, puts it back a decade.

Unfortunately, people want something but are not willing to get involved. They want it handed to them on a silver platter. Canadians, in particular, are content with only being democratic every 4 years or so. In the US they have the rhetoric and propaganda shoved at them every day of the year, every year. They are buried is so much BS they can't see which way is up..
Oh, and I was just thinking this morning, "I wonder where Walter is? Haven't seen him around in a while" and presto, he appears with his twitchy neg repping finger. I must be psychic or something. I sensed his presence lurking in the shadows.
