The resolution on Tibet recently proposed by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is based on "ulterior motives", a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry said Monday.
The resolution calls on the Chinese government to end its "crackdown" in the autonomous region and engage in substantive dialogue with the Dalai Lama.
Spokeswoman Jiang Yu said the resolution proposed by a few US House representatives did not condemn the mobs who committed assaults, vandalism, looting and arson in Lhasa. It also failed to denounce the Dalai clique, who masterminded and organized violent crimes, but instead blamed the Chinese government and the Chinese people for incidents in the region.
"The resolution called white black and was drafted because of ulterior motives," Jiang said.
With regard to contact between China's central government and the Dalai Lama, she said the government's policy has remained consistent and clear.
The government is willing to engage the Dalai Lama as long as he truly abandons advocacy of "Tibet independence", halts activities aimed at splitting the motherland and ceases to mastermind violent crimes within Tibet and other regions, Jiang said.
He should stop trying to sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games and also admit Tibet and Taiwan are inalienable parts of China, she said.

"We urge these US congressmembers to respect the truth, give up preconceptions and recognize the true character of the Dalai clique," she said. Jiang also asked the congressmembers, as political figures, to act responsibly by ceasing to put forward proposals related to Tibet and refrain from other activities hurtful to the Chinese people's feelings and Sino-US relations.
Objective reporting urged
Meanwhile, the top Chinese diplomat in Los Angeles, United States, briefed local media on the recent violent incidents in Lhasa and urged Western media to provide "objective" and "fair" coverage.
"It is unfortunate that a few Western media outlets, including some from the United States, are ignorant of the obvious truths and are basing their reports on distorted facts and unfounded claims," Zhang Yun, the Chinese consul-general in Los Angeles, said on Saturday.
The violent incidents since March 14, in Lhasa and other areas of the country, "have been proved" to have been masterminded and organized by the Dalai Lama clique, he said.
Their activities are aimed at sabotaging social stability in Tibet, disrupting the upcoming Beijing Olympics and agitating for the "Tibet independence" movement, he said.
"We hope the international community and media will recognize the fact that the Dalai clique instigated and plotted the incidents in Lhasa and other places with the intention of splitting China and undermining the Beijing Olympics," Zhang sai

Reflections by Comrade Fidel THE CHINESE VICTORY (Part I) Without some basic historical knowledge, the subject I am dealing with would not be understood. In Europe, people had heard about China. In the autumn of 1298, Marco Polo told marvelous tales about an amazing country he called Cathay. Columbus, an intelligent and intrepid sailor, was aware of the Greeks’ knowledge about the roundness of the Earth. His own observations led him to coincide with those theories. He came up with the plan of reaching the Far East sailing westward from Europe. But, he calculated the distance with far too much optimism, for it was several times greater. Unexpectedly, between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans, this continent loomed up on his route. Magellan would make the journey conceived by him, even though he died before reaching Europe. Still, the voyage was paid with the value of the spices gathered, and the trip begun with several vessels, out of which only one returned, was a prelude of future colossal profits. Since those days, the world began to change at an accelerated pace. Old forms of exploitation were repeated again, from slavery to feudal serfdom; ancient and new religious beliefs spread over the planet. From that fusion of cultures and events, accompanied by technical advances and scientific discoveries, today’s world was born, and it could not be understood without a minimum of real precedents. International trade, with its advantages and disadvantages, was imposed by the co Editor's Note: Whether or not you, like so many, have been persuaded by the current, western media campaign against China, it will be well worth your time and mental energy to read study Fidel's treatise, The Chinese Victory. In it he provides a clear and comprehensive, historical and geopolitical perspective to which most people in the west have not been exposed. May we suggest that you print Fidel's reflections in order to give proper time and emphasis for your own study and reflection. We say "your own reflection" because many of us who received our education from anti-communist, anti-China curricula, find ourselves having to rethink and reassess our assumptions about both.
