President Donald Trump said on Dec. 25 that the U.S. military had attacked Islamic State targets in Nigeria, claiming the group had been targeting Christians in the region.

In a post on Truth Social, the president said he directed the military to launch a "powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!"

  • Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP): Originally a faction of Boko Haram, ISWAP split in 2016 and is currently considered one of the most capable and resourceful jihadist groups in the Lake Chad region. It has expanded its operations from the northeast into the northwest and towards central Nigeria.
  • Boko Haram (Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad - JAS): Founded in 2002, this group is based in the northeast and is known for its brutal attacks and kidnappings. Although weakened by infighting with ISWAP and military pressure, it remains active.
  • Ansaru (Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan): A splinter group from Boko Haram that aligned with Al-Qaeda, Ansaru was largely dormant but resurfaced in 2019. It operates primarily in the northwest.
  • Lakurawa: A newer group that emerged around 2018–2020 in the northwestern states of Sokoto and Kebbi. It is described as a jihadist group that combines religious imposition with organized crime.
Trump is really trying to frame this as protection Christians, & Nigeria is really backpedaling on Trumps narrative and the fact that this happened on Christmas Day.

Finally a mention of the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.

I disapprove of nearly everything Trump does, including breathing, but hitting the IS is never a bad thing.
US Africa Command said it conducted the strikes in Sokoto state, which borders Niger to the north, “in coordination with Nigerian authorities.” AFRICOM’s initial assessment is that “multiple ISIS terrorists were killed in the ISIS camps,” according to a news release. A US official told CNN the strikes included Tomahawk missiles fired from a Navy vessel that struck two ISIS camps.

In an earlier statement posted on X on Thursday, which was later deleted, AFRICOM said it had conducted the attack at the request of Nigerian authorities.

CNN has reached out to AFRICOM and the White House for additional comment. In a separate post on social media, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said there was “more to come,” without expanding further and added he was “grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation.”
Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar told CNN Friday that he had spoken with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio prior to the strike and that Nigerian President Bola Tinubu gave the “go ahead.”

“This is not about religion. It is about Nigerians, innocent civilians, and the wider region as a whole,” Tuggar said.

Speaking of the wider terrorism threat facing Western Africa – particularly in the Sahel region, which has marked the fastest growth in violent extremist activity on the continent – Tuggar said: “When you talk about the Sahel, (the) majority are Muslims. They’re not Christians.”

After spending weeks accusing Nigeria’s government of failing to tackle the persecution of Christians, Donald Trump announced a series of strikes on the west African country on Christmas Day, because Christmas Day.
And from Aljazeera comes Trump, who has previously threatened greater US intervention in Nigeria over dubious claims that a “genocide” of Christians is taking place there, said ISIL fighters had been “viciously” killing and targeting Christians at levels unseen for “centuries”, etc…
Why is Israel involved in Susan?
Why was Israel involved in the Sudan? Was it because it’s a training ground for terrorists in other “jurisdictions?” where they can go to Sudan summer camps to earn their merit badges (?) or some other nefarious plan?

Who are the "good guys" and who are the "bad guys" in Sudan?

Is it still 1990?

I’m assuming that would depend upon your basis of comparison, political persuasion, and several other factors. This would be much easier if they chose to (or where mandated to) wear either black or white hats.
Is it still 1990?
Dude…you must’ve had one hell of a Christmas!! To the best of my knowledge, no, it’s not still 1990. Are you cryptically trying to state that Sudan is not hosting training camps for other jurisdictions to send their future martyrs to, to earn their merit badges? That stopped in 1990 (?) or something else entirely?

Anyway, Trump vs factions in Nigeria this round.
i wonder how many christians will be killed because of air strikes? 🚀
I wonder why Trump and the Nigerian government are trying to spin two very different narratives about the motivation for this naval strike into Nigeria?

Trump is making this all about Christians and timing this for Christmas Day, and Nigeria is trying to not make this all about Christians, and not make this about it happening on Christmas Day…as I think the Nigerian government is trying to steer the boat away from a civil war, & Trump…not so much.

Got something to say these camps are ongoing?

It's almost 2026.

In 1990 Iran was 2 weeks away from it's first nuke but 35 years later....still no nuke.

Sooner or later a smart person calls "bullshit".
Gotta scoot out the door here right away, but it almost sounds like you’re talking about global warming there.😉

Shit…there’s already ‘Greta’ thread, & a ‘Battleship’ thread, & a ‘Hamas/Israel’ thread…& now I’m just confused.

Yes, sounds just like global warming.

Both Iran and Venezuela will be an excellent opportunity to live study Chinese defense systems, missiles, and fighter bomber capabilities.

Hey Roxy...let's proxy.

Anywho…Trump. Nigeria. Nigerian leaders have disputed U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that a U.S. missile attack on Christmas Day was intended to protect Christians in the religiously divided West African country.
Trump is making this all about Christians and timing this for Christmas Day, and Nigeria is trying to not make this all about Christians, and not make this about it happening on Christmas Day…as I think the Nigerian government is trying to steer the boat away from a civil war, & Trump…not so much.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement denying that the missile strikes were specifically designed to protect Christians. The strikes were a joint operation by the two countries aimed at protecting “all citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity,” the ministry said.

Nigeria’s population, the biggest in Africa, is roughly divided in half between a largely Christian south and a mainly Muslim north. Nigerian analysts said the U.S. missile strikes appeared to target places where the main threats were ordinary bandits – rather than Islamist radicals – and where most of the victims were Muslims, rather than Christians.🤫

Some Nigerian opposition politicians said the U.S. missile strikes were a threat to the country’s sovereignty. They noted that the attack was first disclosed by Mr. Trump, who did not wait for the Nigerian government to announce the news because Trump.

Mr. Trump announced on Thursday night that the United States had fired missiles at sites in northwestern Nigeria. He said on Truth Social that the “powerful and deadly strike” was aimed at Islamic State terrorists who have been “targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries!”
