[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica] I am a student living in london, uk and am really thinking of going to uni in canada. i have canadian citizenship as my mum was born there but ive never been! basically ive been trying to do as much research as i can but which uni would be best for me. i am an arts student with liberal views, (majoring in history or philosophy hopefully). basically it would be great if any of you could give me a descriiption and comparison of the unis and the towns they are in. bearing in mind i live in london so dont mind rain but am not too good in cold. of course that wouldnt be the main reason but id like to know what sort of outdoors stuff there is to to in somewhere like montreal when it gets really cold. do sports that arent winter sports eg skiing still happen and how? but im not just an outdoors person, id love a city that mixed both outdoors with a great music scene. also des being on a campus like UBC really separte you from the city compared to a uni like mcgill? is it too campussy if you get me? also, where are the best parties? and, seeing as im a guy, which place has the more attractive ladies! long post, but id be grateful for any info! If you want a school that mixes outdoors and city, then go to UBC. Vancouver is a spectacular city, and though UBC is not downtown, it is probably on the best land on the whole lower mainland. It is only about a 10 minute drive from the downtown. Vancouver is my favourite city in the world, bar none, because of the mix of spectacular natural beauty and interesting urban activities - and I've lived in London and been to New York many times.

McGill will give you a more cosmopolitan flare, and probably has a better reputation than UBC - though all three universities are really good. Montreal would probably be the best "party" city, since you are near downtown, plus its in Quebec, which is pretty easy going about having a good time. I love Montreal. However, it gets very cold in Montreal and snows a lot.

Toronto may be the best university in Canada and has the best international reputation - you won't have to describe the University of Toronto to anyone if you decide to go back to London. It is on the upper side of downtown, but Toronto's downtown is really spread out, so that's not an issue. Besides, from campus its a 10 minute ride on the subway anywhere that you would want to go. Toronto is a pretty uptight place, though.

Both Toronto and McGill aren't as good for outdoors, with Toronto being the least.

As for the women's scene, it scores pretty well for all three. However, you can boil it down to this;

UBC - easy hippie chicks
McGill - easy French chicks
Toronto - frigid gold-digging chicks, unless you're rich, then its easy gold-digging chicks.

If you're going to come to study in Canada, those are definitely three you want to consider, maybe along with Queens and Western Ontario.

cool. so it seems vancouver is the place for outdoors/sports and montreal the place for the scene. but how is the music scene in vancouver and the outdoors in montreal. also bearing in mind i want to do a liberal arts degree which uni is better (or should i consider toronto, and what is toronto like for music and outdoors.) what sort of sports are there to do in montreal in winter that arent skiing etc, for example are there indoor soccer pitches etc. also i speak about 10 words of french, so how would that impede me in montreal.

cheers

If you like Chinese people go to UBC. I had a class there with 132 people in it. There were only 4 people in it, including me, who were not Chinese. That is why UBC is called University of a Billion Chinese.

Check out the University of Western Ontario. London, Ontario is a nice town with a Thames River running through it. Cost of living is way way cheaper than Toronto or Vancouver.
