Year Armed Total Unarmed total Year total Total in U.N history
2006 68 2234 2 56 70 2298

http://www.un.org/Depts/dpko/fatalities/StatsByYear.htm

So by the end of August, of the year 2006 the 61 of the U.N 70 U.N peacekeepers unarmed and armed have given their lives in the name of peace. That would be including the Canadian who was killed during the Lebanese war, inclduing 5 additional comrades.

And in its 61 year history nearly 2300 U.N peacekeepers had been killed. Nearly 1,000 alone in the past 12 years, since in 1994 U.N casualties were at 1,400 +.

And for the third straight year U.N fatalities will rise over 100, and the only question is why?

These are men and women from 191 nations, 192 now, who just desire to see the world in peace. So why do so many of them have to give their lives including 114 Canadian lives

For one, because the UN bureaucracy dealing with peacekeeping is weak-minded, uncaring, and slow to act. Why, any sensible person would ask, were UN observers left on the front lines of the war in Lebanon, when there was no longer any sense whatsoever in observing?

Because that is there job. The job of a U.N peacekeeper especially an unarmed military observer is to observe the movements of the two sides. In this case, Israel and Hezbollah action.

And only if their lives are threatened which they were not since Israel promised not to bomb them, they only leave their position when their lives are death or ordered. However there was no point in leaving since israel had said they would not be targetted.

Standard U.N Military Doctrine. That is the way it goes for the U.N it has gone on for 60 years, its not going to likely change.

Okay, let's get something straight here.......

As a protective or an enforcement body the United Nations is almost completely useless. Only twice has it ever fulfilled its mandate as such (Korea 1950, and Kuwait, 1991), and BOTH times it was being used as a tool of American foreign policy.

Canada is no longer involved in UN peacekeeping to any significant degree, and has not been for decades. There are 50 nations out there that do more under the UN flag then we do, and that's the way I like it.

Why, you ask? Because the UN is a joke. When our troops were in Bosnia, the UN would refuse to allow them data on where artillery fire aimed at them was coming from, such data had to be collected from American sources surrepticiously, according to the commanding General, Lewis MacKenzie.

We were also in the business of collecting arms from Serbs in Croatia, and guaranteeing their safety from Croatians on a binge of ethnic cleansing..........although our orders from UN command were to withdraw immediately if attacked.

Likewise at Srebrenica......were Muslims were disarmed in a UN "safe area", only to have their UN protectors disappear at the first sign of Serb attack.

In Rwanda, D'Allaire was prevented by UN bureaucrats up to and including Kofi Annan from taking the early measures necessary to prevent genocide......

In Durban, South Africa the UN held a conference on racism that looked very much like a 1930s rally at Nuremburg.

Indeed, the UN set up a Human Rights commission that had a rotating membership......which saw the Monty Pythonesque occurance of a HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION consisting of China, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Cuba eject the United States!!!!!

The UN is made up of 192 nations......the vast majority of which are NOT democracies, NOT free in any sense of the word, do NOT share the concern for liberty that exists in western civilization.

The UN is like a Parliament, where 55% of the seatas are reserved for appointments made by Hell's Angels and the Mafia.

The UN as a force in the world is worse than useless, it is counter-productive.

Yeah i guess America is doing better as a world force.

100,000 Iraqis dead, they are surely going to loose that one,

5,000+ Afghanis dead, they are surely going to loose the south if they don't have more firepower, which will loose support in the south anyway.

Yeah, good choice.

The U.N will always be better than American illegal strong armpolicies,

I think not

And yet the UN has endorsed foreign forces both in Afghanistan and Iraq.
