Hey all,
I am wondering if anyone can help me understand if CDMA treo 650's are all locked to there origonal carriers or not. reading on Palms website has led me to believe that they are not neccisarily locked and can be changed. if so what are the restrictions? what is the process? or should i not even bother trying?

Basically I am looking to widen my search area for a used phone by finding out exactly what i can make work and what won't work...

My company won't buy be the phone I want and they are with Telus. used treo 650 from Telus seem few and far between, but the overall availability of CDMA treo 650's seem greater with bell, and other american carriers.
What US carriers are CDMA and will it be possible to convert.

Thanks in Advance for your help.

RE: Treo 650 CDMA Carrier

CDMA carriers in North America will most likely NOT accept a competitor's CDMA phone to be used on their network and force you to buy or sign an agreement with them and use their phone. It is not a hardware issue but more of a policy issue. If they check the serial number against those that are from them and it's not in their list, they won't allow you to use that phone. It's that simple.

So, unless you buy the specific carrier's phone, you are pretty much out of luck.

With GSM phones, once the phone is unlocked, you can use any carriers' SIM anywhere in the world (provided the phone supports the local carrier's network band). That's the beauty of GSM.
