Sheer socialist BS. You got that right from Mulcair didn't you? If you knew anything about running a business you would know this is not likely to happen.
Jim Sinclair was beeking off about this on the news today claiming that nurses and teachers would be forced to work in fat food joints, which is totally false because nurses are in demand. Teachers perhaps not so much in BC. Same with tradesmen. Granted the odd one may wind up working as a labourer but not a single professional is going to get a job at rotten ronnie unless they dumb down their resume since employers know they will not stay and many of them would not be able to function in such an environment. Just because an unemployed person may be required to take a lessor job than they are qualified for does not mean that an employer has to hire them.
And of course I don't think Flaherty was saying we'll cut your EI if you're not offered a job, but rather it you turn one down. And you're right, McD's would offer a burger flipper job to a qualified teacher or nurse or programmer only as a last resort if there is some sort of labour shortage. And if that's teh case, then wages probably won't be too shabby anyway and if the market is that desperate, then certainly they can help out until they find a better job later, right?
That is a fact. But often it is their own fault.
Often but not always. There is plenty of bureaucracy to screw people over, such as if you marry an immigrant. Well, I guess it's your fault to have fallen in love with a non-citizen? Or waht if a family member does not know French and moves to Quebec. Again, tehre can be countless bureaucratic obstacles, enough to drive one mad. i'd had to go through both of these and pulled through, but I can immagine a person with less support than I had from family and friends could easily just give up.
Certainly we'd think the government would try to eliminate such obstacles, especially if it's running on family values. Certainly a family should not be divided by nationality, language laws, etc.
