I worry about my dog becoming coyote food. She's smallish. Schnauzer.

"she's" the operative word. Coyote pups....

The Pups would be Coydogs... Coydog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They're a bit tricky to train as one breeding with a male coyote cuts out
thousands of generations of selective breeding towards what we call a
domestic dog. My sister has one. He was a Hellion for the first year but
has adapted to become a nice dog. That first year though...If he was sad,
he'd bite, happy = bite, hungry = bite, frightened = bite...see the pattern?

Ron, we'd adopted a mix dog once. He refused to stay in our backyard. It's the only dog we've ever had who refused to be part of our pack. We (including the people we adopted him from ) believed the mom had been mating with coyotes. The pup was a meant to be a pitbul. but he looked almost exactly like a short furred coyote. And nothing about him looked pitty.

It's the one and only time I wasn't able to "reach" an animal. It was very odd.
