Nope, besides our governments, our cultures are the same.

Same media (CBS, NBC, ABC, etc.)
Same stores (wal-mart, McDonalds)

Very similar lives, are basically the same.

I think there's a dramatic demographic in play. I see most younger Canadians as being overtly American in disposition and lifestyle. Those over 40 in particular tend to be more independent of American influence in their patterns and taste. No, I'm not saying younger Canucks are sell-outs (although they probably are). I'm just stating the indisputable fact that the Internet Age has compressed the world and the Cult of Celebrity has brought the young an unsettling (con)uniformity.

I dunno...I mean, I don't even know how to describe it...but I do know that when I go to the US, it just feels completely different. I don't even know how to describe it. The US is the US...and when I come back to Canada...it's different. Whether I go to New York, St. Louis, Duluth, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, whatever, the US just feels different. I'm trying to find a better way of describing it than just saying it feels different. I think in Canada, we are more liberal minded, but more conservative...more straight laced in SOME ways. I mean, to go to a concert in the US is very different from going to a concert in Canada. There is a general brashness and boldness that exists in the US that doesn't exist here. I think we are also much a product of our climate, which the Northern US can appreciate, but much anywhere else helps to create a different culture.

Snfu, I can't tell the difference between a young American and a young Canadian. They dress the same, Internet the same, listen to mostly the same groups, have the same bold approach to authority and have adopted similar speech and text practices. Thank goodness there's a border. That, at least, allows me some distinction in telling who is who.

Please spare me, but so far I found TWO different threads talking about the Conservative's honeymoon with voters. So spare me the pain and please stop getting high off honeymoon numbers. Must be the 13 years out of power.......

Considering they have been in power for over a year, hardly honeymoon numbers.

On many issues.

He wants to take ALL our troops out of Afghanistan

But he wanted to send troops to Lebannon during the Israel-Hezbollah crisis.

He is hypocritical and not realistic.

How is that hypocritical OR non realistic? Actually, I didn't hear about him wanting to send troops to lebanon, or under what conditions, or under what orders or whatever....do you have a link?

He is an oddball, socialist, far-left nut, thats killing the NDP party

Seen how low the NDP has fallen in recent years?

He needs to retire so the NDP can get some fresh blood before he drives it into the ground.

I could never bring myself to vote for the NDP.

Thats all I am saying on the issue.

So, you aren't actually answering the question.

I admit, it might be time for a new leader...he has been at the helm for a good length of time now...new leadership would be welcome. He is left wing, but I don't think he is a nut...he's a little odd, ya...but, in a quirky good way, not in a cowboy outfit wearing kinda way.

Well you know what I mean.

He may be ok politically

But as a person... geez ol' Jack is a goof-ball...

He has had his turn and should pass it on to someone else.

Well, I can back change...change is always good...breath new life into the party. I think Jack has done a good job...but, he has been on top for awhile now...new leadership would be a good thing, I agree.

Part of the NDP's problem is that they really don't have a lot of credible leadership options. Jack seemed to be riding pretty high in 2005, but he just had to go and be the catalyst to let Doofus into office.

Seriously, they should just have The Barenaked Ladies run the party; they certainly couldn't do any worse. At least it would be entertaining, and I would pay big bucks to have people throw Kraft Dinner at Mr. Harper during an impromptu 'jam'.

I would not be surprised to see the NDP make a big push to try and suck up members of the Green Party, followed by a desperate plea for a Liberal truce. Both will fail; defections will begin. As is the cycle of politics, both aforementioned parties will benefit greatly through their downcycle.
