The GG should be kept. Clarkson has also done a lot of good there as a representative of soft power.
Look who's come to break up the momentum...
Clarkson has been a lousy representative of soft power.
Her appointment as Governor General had nothing to do with merit and everything to with novelty. It was pure grandstanding on the part of Jean Chretien to have as his choice the first Asian, the first Immigrant, and the first refuge to rise to most symbolically powerful position in Canada.
Sorry Jean, you will always be better remembered for the time you strangled that protester...
During the American presidential visit Bush didn't even take note of her. As he walked down the red carpert with Clarkson at his side, W was literally talking through her "soft powerfulness" to the American ambassador futher abreast.
If the novelty factor had tipped in favour of appointing a drag queen instead, complete with heay rouge and a tiara, perhaps Georgie boy would have paid attention...

She has represented the arts and Canadian culture to a great extent.
Clarkson has done a great job representing herself.
Remember those haughty Double Exposure parodies of Clarkson on CBC radio: "Hello, I'm Adrienne Clarkson... and YOU'RE not."
All I can say is thank goodness the job wasn't given to her ultra conceited sister-in-law, Senator Vivienne Poy.
