Ya, if we were getting all existential up in this thread, sure, lol.
We aren't, so lets stick to reality.
Well of course that's how you would see it, especially after your ensuing little dance with terminology, lol.
And their destructive power didn't become anything worth note, until they were backed by Imperial expansionism and military power, lol.
Ah yes, telling me about my own history, lol.
That idiotic claim might have some merit, if one of two thing had occurred previously...
1, I said the Church never had contact or influence.
2, We were actually talking about early contact and influence of the Church on First Nations.
We weren't.
I'm glad I could help you stick to the conversation there. You really have a problem with sticking to what's in peoples posts. This isn't the first time you've had this problem.
A strong influence doesn't automatically equate into Duncan' vision of assimilation and destruction.
Well, if I ignore the fact that the Conquistadors didn't organize, fund or lead the mission, ok, you have a point, lmao!
In the pursuit of riches first, and souls second, lol.
South America was conquered for its riches.
Hey you started this exchange. If you lack the knowledge to answer intelligently it is not my fault. I suggest you do a little reading into Spanish and Portuguese history. From about the 12th century on they were involved in a three hundred year religious war. Thje fact that it was also profitable was simply a handy coincident. Given the fanaticism of European Catholicism it would almost certainly have continued whether it was profitable or not. In fact if you read the history of the Hapsburg Empire one of the major reasons given for its eventual decline was that it was bled dry by religious wars.
I note you made no attempt to refute my examples of missionary work in Asia and Africa, no doubt because you can't. In fact missionaries generally preceded economic and military expansion into these areas in almost very case.
BTW addling lol to every statement doesn't make your posts come across as any more intelligent. In fact it comes across as the written equivalent of nervous laughter, lol - see what I mean?
