After this deal, Reuters will be 53% owned by the Thomson family. The question is whether the news section's independence can still be relied upon?
I wonder why the trustee let this... I heard there was an offer from Bloomberg to buy Reuters several years ago and at that time Reuters' shares price was even worse, but the trustee didn't let the buyout, so why now when Reuters was actually performing better than at that time?
There has been no complaint it seems about the Thomson family interfering with the news agencies' operation like the Times when the family had it, but then what wouldn't make the family say sell Reuters to Rupert Murdoch?
