This thread was started with a definite

tongue in cheek humour intended. Just for your information, I was in the airforce in the fifties and I know for a fact, condomes had been free to all Canadian military people since the second world war. The whole idea was the prevention of disease. The treatment of Syphilis and other STDs, plus the man/hours lost, was thought to be more expensive than supplying condoms. This is still the primary purpose of the free condoms.

We could of course

ask our military people to abstain while they are in the service. Is a normal term still five years?

They should have the very best, condoms, equipement, provisions,whatever they need. Men and women join the military never knowing when and how they will be called upon to do their duty. They are away from home much of the time. They leave wives and children to do their jobs each and everyday. Their children often grow up and see very little of the parent that is in the military. People in the private sector have no idea what they give up to be in the military. Yes it's a choice they made, but it's not a choice many would make. It's not a free ride and they sure don't get rich. So anything they get for "free" they don't they earn it.
