I might be wrong, but what I get from your post is some sort of materialistic nihilism.

I CHOOSE to view myself as a living, creative, purposeful and dynamic entity, not a meaningless lump of matter and of random encounters.

I don't see the usefulness in denying the freedom of the will. All I can see in that is despair.

s-lone we play with words to reveal meaning or lack thereof right, no evil was intented, you choose do you? or are you compelled? I have not said anywhere that we are meanungless lumps of matter, far from it, you have used your "free will" to arrive at that conclusion, and you are as free as any to be wrong. The exercise of the will is in no sense free, just think about it, use what you are not free of to pick the term apart and build a better term, because that old saws teeth have been dull for about ten thousand years. Don't be willfull be aware and exercise the collective mind that has built you, forget about freedom it don't exist in those terms, never has never will. The word we want is "intent" that's a lot closer to the subject at hand ain't it?

We've invented the word 'freedom' to express a particular concept and I don't see why I'd stop using the word because of disillusionment.

I can use the term 'liberty' if you want. I'm a francophone, I'll be happy to use that term instead.

What's this "freedom" you're talking about S_Lone?

The power to choose, to determine my actions.

One could tell me freedom is an illusion, that we are 100% determined by the physical, chemical, biological and mechanics of the universe. But to me that view is dead, boring and of no use.

As far as I know, no one has ever proved beyond doubt that we are free or not. In front of this philosophical dilemma, I choose to believe in freedom rather than not.

OK now you've become personal in a free dicussion you have labled my "freeer will" as disillusionment, and that is a measure of your slavery to a destructive useless meaningless sound byte. Vive le Quebec libre, and shortly thereafter you'll be singing the American National Anthem en anglise. Nobody shat on you in this thread, what you smell is on your own boot.

Umm... OK... I truly wonder who's taking this personal...

I honestly don't know if you're being serious or not. You could be goofing around but I don't have a clue.

I apologise if I made it sound as if you are disillusioned. What I'm really trying to say is that I truly believe in freedom. That's all there is to it. From my own personal perspective, not believing in freedom would be a symptom of severe of disillusionment, but I speak only for myself.

I'm just as interested in freedom as you are.
