He's talking about a book by E. Annie Proulx. called "Shipping News". It's an excellent book. Well worth the read.

I tried to watch the movie because Kevin Spacey was in it, but it was b-o-r-i-n-g. If it doesn't have either scary monsters or bad guys with guns and fast cars, my attention wanders. Ya ya ... I know, Shell keeps trying to culture me and get me to watch those subtitled things, but so far she's not having much luck.

I should try the book, though. I read a novel a day, pretty much, and would probably enjoy that more. Then again, I lean toward Stephen King, Christopher Moore and Carl Hiaasen so I may not like the book either.

She usually writes modern and unusual stories of the West. Brokeback Mountain is one of her short stories
