Oh, but you're talking 'bout the US conservative Christian right ... explains a lot ... I thought you meant all Christians from Australia to Chile, from Japan to Israel ..

That's something I don't think Europeans really grasp. We've had a taste of it here in Canada and the US is over-run with it. What we call the Christian right is really bizarre...the religion of guns 'n money. I really think it is directly related to the Europeans putting their Puritans on boats and sending them to the new world.

They control the Republicans in the US and are very influential in the Reform/Alliance/Conservatives here in Canada. They are a political force and they haven't really progressed beyond the level of hunting witches. It's bizarre, but it's there.

I can't even understand how religious people think. I have never been involved with any religion in my entire life. So I'm surrounded by people who are so fundamentally different from me.

I'm pretty familiar with Catholicism, from the brutally conservative to the Catholics who show up drunk for midnight mass. It's a good religion for that...there's a whole spectrum there. I don't see a lot of difference between the nun who whacked me with a yardstick for reading in English class and Gerry Falwell or Pat Robertson. I know these people well...they are the people who refused to answer my questions and/or lied to me when I insisted on asking questions.

I'm religious and I don't desire the death of anyone. It's totally against what I believe. However, some members of my particular denomination throughout history such as Salazar in Portugal, Franco in Spain and Diem in Vietnam, would disagree with me.

That's something I've always disliked about the US system. I like the idea of checks and balances, but I wonder what would happen to an American politician in Canada.

Can you imagine George Bush having to take a daily pounding in Question Period? Can you imagine him having to face a media scrum every day?

In Canada's parliamentary system, the government has to answer criticism every day. It's on TV. Hansard...a word for word transcription...is available on the internet in both official languages.
Damn I would pay good coin to see that . Rev could you imagine George leaning over to Condi and sayin"HUH" He wouldn't last a New york minute with our brand of politics .

Have you noticed that the more control the capitalists have, the more the US resembles Stalinist Russia?
I said once on another board that I think that there is a fine line between the Americans brand of democracy and communism .
Now I have really no quarel [SP] with the american people but it seems to me that they are letting the powers that be in Washington do their thinking for them . Washington says [W]e [A]re [R]ight and the think hey if they say it is then it is .

R. Blair, I went to a Catholic school, although my family and I aren't Catholic, and it was great. I soon discovered all these horror stories about Catholic schools (from people and the media), and was surprised by it. It was the best school I have ever gone to, even though it was EXTREMELY poor. They were far removed from the diocese, though, more of a missionary school in the mountains.
Sorry about your bad luck.

Most of the Christians that I know aren't all about money, I don't know where your getting that info from...oh yeah, the media :!:

No, it comes from dealing with them and the things their leaders have said. Notice how I drew distinction between Christans and the Christian right? There's a reason why took the time to do that.

I went through 13 years of Catholic education in three provinces. Most of the schools were fairly good, but the classes taught by clergy or the extremely religious were a waste of time. They were there to spread their dogma, not to teach.

I went to a Catholic school too, that was a nice time, but than again, they're weren't nuns and so on, and you could actually only notice it was a Catholic school by the letters R.K (Rooms-Katholiek - Roman Catholic in Dutch) at the front of the school and by the fact we celebrated Christmas, Easter etc. hahaha :)
