The Queen has been voted the person which most makes the British proud of their nation.

The 84 year old monarch won the popularity survey, closely followed, not surprisingly, by the Queen's former daughter-in-law, Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997, and Sir Winston Churchill.

Elizabeth II - the Nation's Grandmother - is one of the most popular monarchs to have ever reigned over Great Britain. If Britain had a politician as Head of State it's unlikely he or she would remain popular even if they had ruled the country since 1952 as the Queen has.

Even in a survey conducted solely amongst young people, she finished third.

Britain's history, heritage and the National Health Service (NHS) are also things which make us proud to be British. Earlier this year, the UK's health service was ranked as the second best in the world behind only Holland's, finishing much higher than America's health service, despite many Americans ignorantly attacking Britain's health service earlier this year in the wake of Obama's proposed reforms to the US health service.

The survey was conducted ahead of the annual Pride of Britain awards.

The Queen has been crowned number one in a survey of the people who make us proud to be British.

Her Majesty came top in a popularity survey, ahead of the late Princess Di and Second World War Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

X Factor judge and singer Cheryl Cole, 27, came eighth in the poll, but was the favourite with under-18s.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling came second with younger people, with the Queen in third. But the writer cemented her popularity by coming sixth among adults.

David Beckham was surprisingly low in the adults' list at 32 while Posh was 45.

Makes us proud: Britain's health service (NHS) is free, and earlier this year was named as the second best in the world

Men and women agreed that history and heritage, the countryside and the NHS are high on the list in what makes us proud to be Brits.

The survey of 6,000 adults and children was held by Littlewoods.com, which is sponsoring the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards on ITV1 next month.

I have virtually no association in any form with the Queen.

I don't see any reason to ever go visit and see her. whoopy!!

Now Queen Elizabeth the first?? or Queen Victoria? if I could go back in time? that's a different story.
