One boy three girls, all minors. The boy is 17, the girls are 15. The boy and one of the girls were turned in by their parents. The victim was 73, and her arm was wrapped by the seat belt, she was dragged for a block before it tore off. Regardless of the skin color this is a gruesome and I am sad to say fascinating story. The carjackers are being charged with Second-Degree Murder.

However, in my opinion they should be charged with First-Degree, I refuse to believe this was heat of the moment. How do you go from hey let's steal car, to hey let's steal the car strap the owner to the side and drag her across the pavement. It must have taken a minute to tie her down, and you didn't think to just push her back and drive?

Damn. That’s gruesome. In Canada, with the Young Offenders Act, these four could only get a maximum of a 7 yr sentence, with at least 1/2 of that served in the community….so for example, as I understand it…. If this happened in Canada and these four were in remand for a year (Which counts as Double Time), then they would only be able to be incarcerated for the remainder of 18 months, & then 36 months more (as the absolute maximum) served in the community being re-integrated back into society.

The USA has a reputation for harsher sentencing, but I don’t know what these four can expect punishment wise.

I don’t even pretend to understand US law but this looks pretty stinky to me….

Wow…My math was so off…1/2 of 7 yrs being 42 months, etc… but the concept is there and that’s the absolute maximum young offenders sentencing….
