Former prime minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Act on Feb. 12, 2022, to end the protests against vaccine mandates that had gridlocked Ottawa’s downtown streets for almost a month. The act gave Ottawa the power to compel tow truck companies to co-operate with local police to clear blockades, mark parts of the downtown core as no-go zones and freeze the bank accounts of some protestors.

While the Federal Court opposed the use of the act, the Public Order Emergency Commission, a public inquiry into the government’s use of emergency powers, ruled the act’s use was justified in 2023.

The appeal decision follows a ruling by the Federal Court in 2024 that the invocation of the act in response to the protests was unreasonable, unjustified, and violated Charter rights. Following the decision, then deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland (good riddance) vowed her government would appeal the ruling.

This issue was that Trudy was vengeful & hated the idea that people didn't like what he was doing. He COULD have just as easily discussed the situation with the truckers but refused to do so. Unlike the natives who were destroying rail lines & actually doing illegal stuff in 2021, he said that communication & discussion was the way to resolve things. I guess if you're a Native, you'll have the ability to speak your truth but if you're a peaceful crowd rallying against the government, forget about it!!
On Feb. 14, 2022, the government invoked the Emergencies Act, which allowed for temporary measures, including regulation and prohibition of public assemblies, the designation of secure places, direction to banks to freeze assets, and a ban on support for participants.

Yes , but most acted in a peaceful way , if not they were shut down immediately . Downtown Ottawa was actually clean and safe during that period .
It was well documented by all the citizen cameras and video .I’m sure law-enforcement has the statistics to prove that also but they sure as hell not gonna share that.
