The hundred best films

I can't take any such list seriously that wouldn't include Harold and Maude, simply one of the best comedies ever made.
For myself it would be a difficult choice between "Casablanca" and "Double Indemnity" for top film.
There would be a lot of black and white films to fill out the list.

Many moons ago, I had a buddy whose favorite movie was "Zulu". He read several books and articles on that battle and memorized the names of just about every British soldier in it. Lost in all this is the fact that the Poms were imperialistic terrorists who were out to conquer the world. Yet, the movie treats them like heroes.
Some of my faves:

"Thief of Baghdad" {Fairbanks}
"Robin Hood" {Flynn}
"Casablanca" {Bogart}
"Man of Aran" {Flaherty}

To be fair, so where the Zulus, they just didn't get as far.
Between two wrongs, you may as well cheer for the ones who were snappier dressers.
I'm shocked by this list, but in a good way. Finally, a list that recognizes Strangers On A Train instead of the usual Vertigo, Rear Window, The Birds, or Psycho you see on every other list. Not saying those are bad, but Strangers is often underrated and overlooked.
I also like that they don't have heavy bias towards older films like most lists. There Will Be Blood is definitely worthy of its spot. Best film put out since Pulp Fiction in '94.

A couple of thoughts: The British government was certainly an imperialistic government and I can't argue with that, but the little, hundred and twenty man detatchment at Rourke's Rift standing up to 6,000 Zulus because they were ordered to do so evokes a certain pathos and admiration. These same Zulus had just killed 1500 British soldiers a few hundred miles away. The battle at Rourke's Rift impressed the British government obviously because the awarded 11 Victoria Crosses to the men who fought there.

If some invader came into your land and killed your family, you would have gladly done the same.

Well thats a strawman arguement. The Russians also never Invaded England, nor did the Ottomans, that didn't mean they weren't both Imperial powers.
The Zulu empires borders grew pretty damn fast as Shaka "united" the Mtweta Empire into his new Zulu empire.
Much the same way the British later "United" the Zulu Empire into the British Empire.
Plenty of smaller peoples were conquered by the Zulu. People are people, and imperial expansionism was not a purely european concept.
Yeah, first we had to watch for the commies, then the terrorists, now the Zulus.
