Parliament Hill was briefly locked down Thursday morning after RCMP officers discovered explosives in a pickup truck during a routine vehicle inspection, CTV News has learned.

CTV's Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife said Parliament Hill and the House of Commons were immediately closed and RCMP and security officers quickly went into high alert.
"They discovered a pickup truck that was carrying explosives of the C4 variety. It turned out this apparently was a contractor who was working on Parliament Hill," Fife told CTV News Channel.
He added: "There's a lot of construction work on Parliament Hill. To get onto Parliament Hill in a vehicle you have to go through an inspection process where they look under your vehicle, they look inside your vehicle, and they discovered these explosives and, of course, it was an immediate lockdown."
After investigating, security officials determined the contractor did not pose a threat and was simply trying to get to work. It isn't clear why he was carrying the C4 explosives.
Parliament Hill has now been re-opened, Fife said.
"I suppose, in a way, it's reassuring that the RCMP and Hill security were able to act so quickly in dealing with what could have been a very serious threat."

Not quite a prevented catastrophe, but it could have been!

In Canada, our terrorists are very polite and stop for police checkpoints.

Or hijack buses and get them stuck in the mud on the hill, saying they have a bomb when in fact there are no explosive devices at all.

This guy had the explosives but was lacking that certain je ne sais quoi that makes a good terrorist.

I am surprised there was no one from Immigration Canada or the Revenue Service
out there filling in his application for pension.
