RE: The Gomery Inquiry on

The information was leaked to a Republican blogger in the US. The general feeling is that it was a Conservative who leaked it. The RCMP will investigate that. The Liberals have asked the RCMP to investigate the testimony to see if fraud has been commited against them.

We're seeing the results of corruption from both sides. We're seeing political games being played instead of justice being sought or problems withing the system being addressed.

Voting for the Liberals or the Conservatives at this point is voting for continued corruption. There are alternatives on both sides on the political spectrum. Take them.

I know it is not a major issue for you, for as simple as that you are not the victims. The feds clearly took our "impot" (yours too!) money to sell federalism to us!!

That's just one of the crazy ways they used to fight bad independantist (see -> pretty much French Québecois). Federalism promotes independatist as being evil, and don't tell me I'm wrong.

Feds used your and my money, to fight independantist in their own province! I just can't accept it.

Cubic, I'm not happy with the outcome of the sponsorship. But your provincial government uses your tax dollars on promoting an independent Quebec. Maybe not in the same way, but it's still happening under your nose.

Unfortunately, politics and tax money don't mix very well. It's bound to go sour. But unfortunately in every system since the inception of mankind, politicians have always had control of your money.

By the way, I would support education of separatists because in most cases, person-to-person, they have no idea what they are talking about. In French or in English ;)

RE: The Gomery Inquiry on

There seems to be a lot of confusion between the Sponsorship Program and the scandal that's grown out of it.

The reality is that the Sponsorship Program was a perfectly legitimate government initiative. It is not the scandal, no matter whether you agree with the program or not. Don't confuse the two.

I disagree, Rev. Based on the latest info, the main purpose of this program was to funnel money to the Liberal party. Far from a legitimate program!

RE: The Gomery Inquiry on

The main purpose of the program was to promote Canada within Quebec. It did that. The corruption is a separate issue and pertains to the goals of the program only in that the corruption would have negatively effected the program even it wasn't discovered.

Actually, the main purpose of the program was to disguise and hide the funds being transferred to the party as funds intended for a unity or soveriegn canada.

Astoundingly typical: on Global National tonight, they read a few emails from viewers re the scandal. One person (from Ontario, of course!) wrote; "It doesnt matter WHAT my beloved Liberals do - they will always be the Party for me."

Brass-poles......

I love brass poles, Ten Packs...they remind me of strippers and broken cue sticks and the days when the bastards would actully let you smoke in a bar.

You'll find that kind of blind support for any party though...including the Cosmopolitans or Neopolitans or whatever they're called. Check them out. They need votes...don't seem to have a platform.

The reality is that then Liberals do well because they run from the left and govern from the right though. That gives them the fear vote coming and going. It's a beautiful strategy...like a well-placed bunt. If they didn't piss me off so much I'd be tempted to vote for them out of pure admiration of political strategy.

Envelopes Stuffed with Thousand Dollar Bills

By

James Bredin

Was it unmarked envelops stuffed with thousand dollar bills?
Worthy of the mafia money laundering skills,
We’re so lucky because we still don’t know who was at fault,
As revealed at the Adscam Inquiry by Jean Brault.

Because this Adscam information is still coming out,
As we wait with baited breath but no one has a doubt,
Just how many of the Chretien clan were involved?
Will this adscam sovereignty mystery ever be solved?

Because the Adscam is where public opinion counts,
They discussed huge numbers of varying amounts,
Our taxpayers’ money manipulated here and there,
And all this went on and we were not aware.

Was it about the Red Book or the ethics they preached?
And did you know that prime ministers cannot be impeached?
And you cannot vote for your prime minister,
And he decides to walk or stay or to administer.

:p

He picks the judges and the senators that you can’t question,
About their hidden vested interests and this is not repression,
But this information like the Adscam stuff is unknown,
Will they try to close it down or will they postpone?

I don't rhyme much, and my iambic pentameter sucks, but what the f***?

Media Stuffed With Crap

When will we find truth?
Never, or at least not yet.
There's spin to spin and an election to...

Oh yeah, the election.
Pretty much a truth-free zone now.
Let's go attack.

The attack is always fun,
Politics as bloodsport,
Makes me rock.

Like a hockey fight and a NASCAR crash all in one.
I love it as much as the next guy,
Why Not?

That blood on the ice is ours though,
The headless corpse being pried out of the wreck is us.
nevermind.

You guys want to just run straight politics?
Slurs and scandal and who put what in which pig?
I can play. Buck a ball, lay your money down. I'll break.

Did you know Stephen Harper has a three-headed illegitmate child?
Neither did I until I made it up just now.
Now prove it wrong, or at least not hypocritical.

Or we could just work to fix shit.

Your choice.

How Serious Is the Adscam Inquiry?

By

James Bredin

They searched around until they found a very good reason,
To steal from the treasury and not be charged with treason,
Said it was Sponsorship Plan because of Referendum Two,
Envelopes stuffed with money for this plundering crew.

Great country as you can tell but with politicians from hell,
Who pillage the treasury in a way no one can tell,
You remember Jean Chretien and his little golf ball stunt,
Such arrogant self confidence and he did it out front.

This sponsorship program was in keeping with the season,
To show the flag in Quebec they said was their reason,
That plus equalization should keep Quebec quiet,
Plus federal bilingualism should reduce any riot.

8O

But now that they’ve been caught with both hands in the cookie jar,
Helping themselves to taxpayers’ money from near and from far,
As the stench of their corruption permeates their ranks,
Without firewall protection and they never said thanks.

As the Quebecois now look at their federal politicians,
And they ponder their future with these same conditions,
As separatists urge them on and say it’s time for a change,
We need Referendum Three so we can rearrange.

As some politicians search frantically for a reason,
Close adscam and no election until another season,
But the hockey has been delayed and people are confused,
Is this serious stuff or should we be amused?

Ex-PM Jean Chretien, you’ll recall, testified before Justice John Gomery’s AdScam inquiry that he didn’t know about any wrongdoing in the federal sponsorship program he created.

Well, if the stunning testimony by former Groupaction Marketing president Jean Brault — released by Gomery Thursday — is to be believed, there were many things Jean Chretien didn’t know:

• Jean Chretien didn’t know that Brault, who has ties to the Chretien family going back almost 30 years, kicked back more than $1 million to the Liberal party over nine years in return for at least $40 million in sponsorship contracts alone.

• Jean Chretien didn’t know that one of the key players through whom these secret payments were made was Jacques Corriveau, a longtime Chretien crony and a key member of his leadership campaigns.

• Jean Chretien didn’t know that Brault paid Corriveau’s firm hundreds of thousands of dollars for doing nothing — money which Brault understood was destined for the Liberal party.

• Jean Chretien didn’t know that his older brother, Gabriel (Gaby) Chretien, to whom he is extremely close, conspired with Brault to obscure a paper trail linking the Liberal party to the sponsorship scandal. (Brault said he and Chretien’s brother agreed Brault would disguise a $4,000 donation to the Liberals as a payment to Gaby through a phoney invoice.)

• Jean Chretien didn’t know that his own niece, who had previously worked at Corriveau’s firm, was one of the people Corriveau strong-armed Brault into hiring at Groupaction.

• Jean Chretien didn’t know Corriveau also pressured Brault into hiring Liberal partisans who actually did full-time work for the Liberals while being paid by Groupaction.

• Jean Chretien didn’t know that another prominent individual through whom Groupaction funnelled cash to the Liberal party was Benoit Corbeil, president of the Liberal party’s Quebec wing in the 1990s and a confidant of Corriveau’s.

• Jean Chretien didn’t know his top adviser, Jacques Corriveau, was paid $430,000 by Brault for work that was billed but never performed by Corriveau’s company, Pluri-Design.

Moving on from Chretien, Alfonso Gagliano — Chretien’s public works minister, and thus responsible for the sponsorship program — also testified that he didn’t know of any wrongdoing.

Gagliano didn’t know that Brault funnelled tens of thousands of dollars to the Liberals through Joseph Morselli, a confidant of Gagliano’s.

Nor did he know that Brault and Morselli met at a Montreal restaurant where Brault put $5,000 on the table in an envelope, went to the bathroom, and returned to find the money was gone.

Nor did he know Brault delivered an envelope stuffed with $25,000 in cash to Morselli at Gagliano’s fundraising dinner.

In total, Brault says he doled out $100,000 in cash to Morselli, supposedly to help the provincial arm of the federal Liberals.

Nor did he know top Quebec Liberals also pushed Brault to pay $84,000 to Liberal staffer Serge Gosselin, who Brault said never worked at Groupaction. Commission lawyers say Gosselin was working on a book on Gagliano while on Brault’s payroll.

“We were very heavily solicited,” Brault recalled April 1 under questioning from lead inquiry counsel Bernard Roy.

“We didn’t ask questions and we understood that all contributions were going to be taken into consideration and that we would be compensated (for it) one way or another.”

Finally, Prime Minister Paul Martin testified he didn’t know of any wrongdoing in the sponsorship program either, despite being Chretien’s finance minister and the senior minister from Quebec.

This is what the Liberals are asking us to believe.

Unbelievable.

RE: The Gomery Inquiry on

Gomery for Dummies likely gives a fairer political analysis than the Calgary Sun, Ten Packs.

Jean Chretien, like a lot of senior politicians, would have been very careful not to know certain things.

Quick question:

- How will anything EVER change if people continue to vote in the same party?

- Did we not know about this scandle prior to the last election? I specifically didn't vote for the Liberals then because of the scandle. What about the one billion missing in HRDC? That one seems to be deeply burried under the Canadian Shield! Oh well - I guess the majority of Canadians are happy with a corupt government.

Things won't change as long as we keep voting in Liberals or Conservatives. You want a change? Vote for a party that will institute proportional representation or push whatever party you are voting for (and memberships are cheap as hell) to make PR part of their platform.

That makes things like this difficult for anybody to pull off because you end up with members of all parties sitting in cabinet together.

The Conservatives are a joke on this scandal thing...their record is no better. They don't back anything that would change things though. The remind me of a crooked cop waiting to bust somebody so he can steal their stash.

I agree with proportional representation, my problem as a right wing voter is that I only have one alternative to the Liberals, and that is the torries. I think back to the Mulroney days - I know he (and his cronies) were no better. I don't agree with many conservative policies, but I feel that they are my only alternative. I wish the REFORM party wouldn't have merged.

RE: The Gomery Inquiry on

There are options, insignificant. There's the Progressive Canadian Party. There's David Orchard. You can start your own party. You can work within the Conservatives to change them.

Saying that there is no choice is disingenuous at best...no matter which side of the political spectrum you are on.

the fortunes of Political Parties in Canada, rise and fall at the whim of the 905 area code. These are the folks who gave 'heartless' Harris a second majority provincially. Perhaps they haven't heard of Gomery or they just don't care. Anyway if they put the Bush Babies into power, I'm off to Lotus Land.
Response to thread - I do care about this criminal conspiracy and I see that Cretien and his cronies have seriously weakened Confederation. A pox on them
