The folly of Liberals doing nothing

You know who wins elections, parties that concentrate on making the public hate the enemy
more than they hate you. Polarized politics has no opponents the opponents are the enemy
sad but true

Jean Chretien used fear very effectively throughout half of his time as Prime Minister. But I don't think you give Canadians enough credit, I think they are sick of this tactic and that is why we have a conservative government. As to the NDP, they may hold their position as opposition if the Bloc doesn't fan the flames of sovereignty again.

Oh, and I'd say that the Liberals are in the exact same position the Conservatives were throughout the 90's.

All any party has to do to get my vote is to present to me the best local candidate morally and intellectually (especially morally), and that candidate gets my vote.

Define morally. Just because a candidate goes to church does not make them morally acptable. Often quite the opposite.

Is it me or is the Liberal Party of Canada really doing nothing to improve itself as a palatable alternative to the Conservatives. Sure, they are changing their leadership with the coronation of a candidate who has no experience and whose claim to fame is based on his father's successful career as a politician. But what have the Liberals really done?

For a short while they played footsy with the NDP, that is, until the NDP won opposition status and that groping beneath the political covers came to a screeching halt. They have neither defined themselves or showed remorse for the havoc they caused during a number of scandals that left a horrid taste in the mouth of most Canadians. Like it or not, the last election results did not lie. Right now Canada have one alternative, the Conservatives, that's not good for Canada.

It's time for the Liberals to get off their self indulgent soapbox and give Canadians something more substantive than a rock star who's riding Daddy's coat tails.

Well put, RCS. They also played with the Greens but that didn't get them anywhere either. I don't believe anyone in the party has a clue about what they stand for anymore.

It really doesn't matter. The next ruling party will be who the ruling class chooses it to be. The media will manipulate your opinions and thus your vote as it always has. The sheeple will vote in the next wolf to lead them to the slaughter because it so much easier than thinking for themselves..

No one can manipulate me unless I let them, Cliffy and I am sure that goes for most Canadians. News media today is not what is was in my youth when reporters reported and editorializing was left up to journalists. There is zero depth to TV and radio news broadcasting these days making it all but impossible to form an opinion on anything. I rarely if ever bother to watch or listen to the 'news' these days. I prefer to get the latest on what is happening in Canada and the world from as wide a range of print media as I can. Even then it can be difficult to get to the truth.

When one has a third party status they let the official opposition to flounder since the media will tell their story.

The Liberal party of Canada were in a rebuilding mode so not having the spotlight on them was OK.

Next week the leader will announced and the drive to the Prime Minister’s office will begin and the official opposition will take a back seat like if the NDP really had a chance.

They can drive all they want, LM...............but no one says the door will be open for them when they get there. They have a long way to go before they can regain the confidence of Canadians and crowning Justy wasn't the best of starts.

You always make that comment, or one similar, and I've got to ask, just who exactly are these "sheeple"? Because, I have to tell you, the implication I'm getting is that if you bother to vote at all, well then that means you're nothing but a manipulated airhead who can't think for themselves. And that is something I find personally to be incredibly condescending.
