As a rule, the poorer the country, the easier it is for it to grow owing to the fact that it can compete pricewise.

This is one reason I'm pro-free-trade, since it is in fact an effective means of redistributing wealth between have and have-not countries. It's also a reason I'm baffled that any so-called socialist party would oppose free trade, seeing that their reason for being is the redistribution of wealth, no?

I remember the glowing expositions (not so long ago) about the prosperity the EU had brought to Ireland.. and before that Greece.. or Portugal and Spain.. now all in the throws of an economic depression far worse than they were in prior to entering the Euro zone or EU. The European Union has simply been a catastrophic failure.. that is in the process of an on going collapse. Once that is fully played out, Poland too will be sucked into the whirlpool.

This is absolutely true, Poland is marvelous.
Poland has it's own way of doing things, without EU destructive interferences, and Polish nationalism is one of the main pillars of European heritage and identity, even if the "wise" people from Bruxelles don't like to admit it

Seems to be some sort of misconception here. Poland is hardly a free market paradise. Public spending is currently over 43%. Compare this to Canada and the US at about 39% each. As for Poland avoiding the "destructive influence" of the EU a good deal of Poland's recent success is due to the emigration of thousands of Poles to other EU nations since its entry into the EU in 2006.
