'I'll miss being the pantomime villain': Nigel Farage prepares to step down as an MEP as he uses his Brexit victory lap to predict the UK's departure from the EU will be the 'beginning of the end' for the bloc

Nigel Farage today said he will miss being the European Union's 'pantomime villain' as he predicted the UK's departure from the bloc will herald its demise. The leader of the Brexit Party will step down as an MEP on Friday after a 21 year career in the European Parliament as Britain finally splits from Brussels at 11pm on January 31. Mr Farage has long led the fight for the UK to quit the bloc and he is now on his victory lap. This morning he signalled he will now be taking a step back from the political frontline but warned Boris Johnson he will return to the fray if the Prime Minister fails to deliver an acceptable Brexit. Mr Farage said his Brexit Party will be mothballed but if Mr Johnson 'drops the ball' in the coming months he will be back to 'catch it' as he promised: 'I am still going to be around.'
