"Italy has struggled since adopting the euro currency 18 years ago."

Italy has struggled since the 19th century.

Are you trying to tell us Italy was a healthy vibrant economy 18 years ago?

Everything in Italy in coming up roses in 2000 for Italy, and everything was ruined by joining the EU?

I am surprised the EU even wanted Italy.

In the pre-war years, Italy enjoyed strong economic growth. But it's economy has declined dramatically since it adopted the euro, the coins and notes of which were introduced on 1st January 2002. Being in the euro - which Britain, wisely, decided to keep out of against the advice of the europhiles - means countries do not control their own currency and set their own interest rates to suit their own economies. The euro and and interest rates are all controlled by the European Central Bank which, of course, always sets interest rates to the advantage of the German economy and to hell with the others. So many eurozone member states have interest rates that are too high or too low and that is damaging. The eurozone is also suffering from a hige debt crisis. Italy would do well to quit the euro - which should have stayed out of it like Britain, Denmark and Sweden wisely did - get back the euro and then it can set have complete control over its own currency.

"The British bombers were designed to bomb cities, he said, while the “Teutonic mind” never even considered such a policy, and instead viewed an air force merely as a tool to “blast open” a path for attacking armies."

13 people were killed in this German zeppelin raid on Kirk Street in Bolton (just several hundred yards or so of where I am right now) in Spetember 1916.

I was in Italy in the early 90s and was told that italy had more governments than there were years between the end of world war two and the present time.

Not sure if that was a true rumor but it illustrated a point about Italy.

^and why would you want Italy to join an economic union? Did the Titanic need another anchor?

I think the new government of Italy is the 68th since 1945.
