(in part)
When men actually began to be diagnosed as “hysterics,” doctors searched for a cause. They found a chemical that may be on the rise again today.

In one lecture in Paris, Charcot described a classic patient. The man had always been “sober and tranquil of manner.” He had worked in the rubber industry for 17 years, but only recently began manually cleaning the vulcanization vats that contained carbon disulfide. In the process, the man experienced an acute burning sensation in his scrotum—and then collapsed on the job, fully anesthetized. He was unconscious for half an hour and bedridden for two days, which were filled with nightmares and hallucinations of “terrible animals.” He did not recover fully, but remained weak and given to twitching. Charcot diagnosed the man with “toxic hysteria” secondary to carbon disulfide poisoning.

The actual process of how insanity was triggered could be the same as it is in related conditions, like the list below.

HAPE

HAPE is excess fluid on the lungs, and causes breathlessness. It is never normal to feel breathless when you are resting - even on the summit of Everest. This should be taken as a sign that you have HAPE and may die soon. HAPE can also cause a fever (a high temperature) and coughing up frothy spit. HAPE and HACE often occur together.

HACE

HACE is fluid on the brain. It causes confusion, clumsiness, and stumbling. The first signs may be uncharacteristic behaviour such as laziness, excessive emotion or violence. Drowsiness and loss of consciousness occur shortly before death.

What are the early signs and symptoms of altitude sickness?

Early symptoms of acute mountain sickness are usually the following:

However, acute mountain sickness may be associated with any combination of the following symptoms:

What are the late symptoms of acute mountain sickness?

Late symptoms of acute altitude sickness include:

  • Swelling of extremities (late symptom)
  • Social withdrawal (late symptom)
People with acute mountain sickness often attribute their symptoms to other causes such as an uncomfortable bed, bad food, or a hangover. However, it is important to recognize that these symptoms may indicate a high altitude illness.

What are the signs and symptoms of high-altitude pulmonary edema?

High-altitude pulmonary edema, an advanced form of altitude sickness, causes the following progression of symptoms to develop. The person may have:

  • Several of the acute mountain sickness symptoms develop slowly or rapidly (early symptoms)
  • Shortness of breath at rest (early symptom)
  • Gurgling respirations
  • A wet cough with frothy sputum
  • A fever
  • Respiratory failure (late symptom)
The onset of high-altitude pulmonary edema can be gradual or sudden. High-altitude pulmonary edema typically occurs after more than one day spent at high altitude. High-altitude pulmonary edema requires immediate treatment.

What are the signs and symptoms of high-altitude cerebral edema?

High-altitude cerebral edema produces symptoms that can become progressively worse over a short time period.

  • Any acute mountain sickness or high-altitude pulmonary edema symptoms (early symptoms)
  • confusion (early symptom)
  • Cannot do usual functions (hiking, skiing, for example) because of fatigue or shortness of breath
  • Walking and coordination become impaired.
  • As the brain continues to swell, lethargy and then coma will develop (late symptoms).
  • If left untreated, high-altitude cerebral edema will ultimately result in death.

One is caused by industry and the other is caused simply my climbing a mountain too fast. In the various conditions that people can exist in that may also create similar responses. That would be all the way down to the fabled feuds the hillbilly legends. Lead tainted moonshine and a wood stove letting carbon monoxide into the cabin would cause the insanity that was normally associated with incest.

Don't tell me it is too tough of a subject for this crowd. Perhaps if it was called 'drama' instead. It can and does include all these 'conditions' as being something that is 'treatable'

Symptoms:
Confusion
Brain fog
Shortened attention span
Difficulty concentrating and paying attention
Slowed reflexes
Disorientation
Dizziness
Memory loss and memory problem
Impaired learning ability
Hallucinations
Shock
Anxiety
Depression
Aggression and other personality changes
Tingling
Trembling
Shaking
Seizure
Numbness
Difficulty breathing - breathlessness or shortness of breath
Wheezing
Coughing
Pulmonary edema - swelling of the lungs
Pulmonary hemorrhage - bleeding in the lungs
Sore throat
Burning sensation of the mouth
Bleeding gums
Runny nose
Itchy nose
Stuffy, blocked nose
Nose bleeds
Irregular heartbeat
Heart inflammation
Damage to heart
Low blood pressure
Bone marrow disruption
Bleeding tendency
Blood not clotting properly
Hemorrhage - internal bleeding
Vomiting up blood
Bleeding in the brain and in other organs
etc, . . .

That is good to hear. Being a witness and a victim of it I can assure you it is not something that enlightens the days, once it visits it can be there for months on end. That you haven't had them doesn't mean they don't exist and if it is more common than rare then perhaps the condition that causes it a common factor so if you find the treatment for one you will have found it for all of them and probably a few more to boot.

The above conditions are specific to a certain type of exposure and the treatment for that is ozone. Getting that gas into your body will see it change into 02 within a few hours and the single molecule that is left is called a 'free radical' and it is that component of ozone that attacks parasites and such. Depending on the ailment and the degree of the ailment there should be a combination that gives the best recovery

Ozone has an MSDS sheet available so there are known exposure levels that fall within safe and too much. If the airflow is regulated ozone created at home could be straight 02 by the time it entered the room. The treatment for too much is to give the victim 02 so it seems to be safer than it sounds. Built in timers would be better for most people and most rooms. A conference room might be flooded with 03 a few hours before the meeting and when the people are in the closed room the air quality is equal to 'above average' once that has been shown to reduce 'tension' in the whole room. 02 quality might have to be posted if it is higher than normal or lower than normal in a certain room.
Give it a hysteria factor if you will.
