What I found on Wikipedia ...

According to an ABC News poll from March 21, 70 percent of Americans believe that Terri Schiavo's death should not be a federal matter, and are opposed to the legislation transferring the case to federal court. In the same poll, a 63 percent majority said that they support the removal of Schiavo's feeding tube. A 67 percent majority agreed with the statement that "elected officials trying to keep Schiavo alive are doing so more for political advantage than out of concern for her or for the principles involved."

A poll by CBS News showed that 82 percent of respondents believe the Congress and President should stay out of the matter, while 74 percent thought it was "all about politics." Only 13 percent think Congress acted out of concern for Terri Schiavo. Furthermore, Congressional approval ratings sank to 34 percent, the lowest number since 1997.

The next battle? This morning I heard that it looks as though Terry's parents & husband will be facing off again, this time over her funeral arrangements. Apperently they disagree over cremation vs burial, and where Terry's remains should end up.

Really horrible, the media coverage of this case. It's like a slow-motion, play-by-play relay of this woman's death.

Apparently the age of reason has come and passed. Interesting that I think it's Gov.(?) Tom Delay who has been so outspoken pro-life actually pulled the plug on dear old dad a few years ago. But hey this is the age of freedom and democracy...not reason. I feel so sorry for Terri/family they're all being used by the foaming at the mouth raging christians. Someone is going to get hurt I think.

I think Terry's parents are tickled pink by the media coverage and the politicians involvement. It's what they want.

I do feel sorry for her husband having to deal with the circus performance of the media, the gov't and her parents.

The whole thing has turned into a total Gong Show. Everyone is taking advantage of her to push their own agenda. Sadley I guess, there will, more than likely, be a movie of the week about all this.

PEI...for now
I feel a little queasy though, the gov't stepping in to heighten the hype makes me wonder what they are wanting to distract the US population from? We know how distracted they can be, and poor Terri seems to be the carrot on the stick that the US Gov't wants everyone to watch.

By most accounts, Michael has been very compassionate and loyal towards Terri. If he did not love her, why didn't he divorce her soon after the accident and wash his hands of her? Suggesting that this was all a big scheme to make money is ridiculous. That part about not letting her parents be present for her death I did find a little offside. Maybe he is bitter after fighting them in court for years and years.

Yes, she did collapse in his company alone, but that doesn't necessarily have to mean something. What I don't find on the website is the fact that Michael Schiavo did give permission for therapy and rehabilitation for the first four years of Terry Schiavo's coma, and only stopped after those four years after doctors had said it would be very unlikely that Terry Schiavo would ever show signs of recovery. What is also missing is the fact that Michael Schiavo was rewarded $ 1.2 million in November '92 after he had filed a lawsuit against a group of doctors who had misdiagnosed her before she got into a coma; they were trying to get pregnant, and nobody ever checked her blood to check her potassium level (they diagnosed Terry Schiavo got a heart attack because of her high potassium level in her blood) - it seems it would have been quite obvious to check that. Anyway, although Michael Schiavo was rewarded $ 1.2 million by the court, he "gave" most to Terry Schiavo to pay for her medical expenses (the insurance company refused to pay this) - which angered Terry's father, who also wanted money.

Now, Michael Schiavo did get children with another woman, fell in love with another woman. Which is strange to such an extent, that he is also still the husband of Terry Schiavo, and gets to make the decisions surrounding her.

Nevertheless, it doesn't take away that most doctors diagnosed there to be no more chance of recovery for Terry Schiavo. Some of the doctors who did, only argued that there could maybe be recovery only to a certain, small extent.

About the 3,000,000 dollar book: if Terry Schiavo would have been gotten the right to die after the first diagnosis by the doctors that she would probably never recovery, and the parents of Terry Schiavo would not have fought against the decision (this is not meant to accuse the parents of Terry Schiavo of something), she would have died years ago, and it would probably have been in media silence. Than Michael Schiavo would have never gotten the 3,000,000-dollar deal. That he did make that deal I think is not part of an evil conspiracy by Michael Schiavo from the beginning to get as much money from his wife Terry as he could, but rather "really American". Don't forget that the Schindler family got a lot of money as well from supporters.
