Telus does offer TXT messaging internationally to many countries worldwide representing over 400 million subscribers. attached is the URL.

What Telus offer and what actually works are two very different things . It doesn't work - period! You can send - but you cannot receive.

the best part about it is - they can blame the international carrier - and they do hehe - ALL works on fido though.

In my very frustrating correspondence and conversations with Telus, I finally pointed out that although it is reasonable to expect brand new products to break down, for one product to breakdown a couple of times already (three times if you count the first phone) in less than 6 months is terribly terribly wrong. Telus should be replacing that phone with a new phone. Instead, what Telus wants is to replace it with a refurbished phone. I do not think that is fair. If I pay full price for a product, I have a right to expect that that product is in good condition.

You have no 'rights'. You have terms and conditions and the service provider has no control over the manufacture. If the manufacture makes a cheap phone and it breaks but enough volume of customers acquire it the company makes a profit rather than a high end phone no one will buy because it is too expensive.

It is nothing personal, it's business. If you don't like it then you can buy your own phone on ebay but if you spend X dollars your are then going to get Y phone. If Y phone is defective you will get another Y phone not the more expensive Z phone if your outside of the 30 day return policy because the service provider can not resell that phone at the same price anymore, the phone is worth less than half after 30 days and the provider will simply lose the customer than have a policy that will cause them to lose money with thousands of current customers.

If quality is more important than fashion and price more important than quality don't get the latest (and buggiest) phones let the techno geeks do that and let them troubleshoot. Do your research and use sites like phonescoop.com to do research on the model of phone and see what the 6 month reviews are like. Then see what the MANUFACTURES return policies are like if all that fails because the dealer and the service provider have jack to do with that.

I made this thread sticky for ppl to find it easily.

Also please put in mind the reviews are kind of out-dated, it can only give you a preview image of how it is. With the times goes, some providers are getting better and some others are getting worse. If you want more information, please look and ask around the forum.

I disagree.. Telus is Terrible!!!

Wow, as far as Telus Mobility as a service provider is concerned - Telus is terrible!!! I have never had as many problems with any service provider before in my life. If I have any advice - do not sign up with Telus - especially not for 3 years!!!

I purchased a new Telus phone when I signed up with Telus and my phone broke - for no apparent reason whatsoever - one week after my warranty expired. I could not get a phone for a month following this. Telus still charged me for service for that month (that I didn't receive service) and very graciously offered me 150$ off a new 300$ - 400$ phone if I signed for an additional 2 years. Thanks but no thanks!!! I wrote them letters, called them and didn't receive any reponse.

Needless to say I am counting down the days for my contract to expire....

BUT watch those '3 month free'

Great article....but everyone should be aware that I finally found out why my last three Telus bills(only been with them 3 months!) were overcharging me....Cindy at the Customer Center confirmed that Telus has a known bill processing error and connot deliver on those '3 free' months. So rather then stop offering them until they fix the issue....they wait until customer catch it and complain...and correct the bill. If the customer misses it...well Telus just pockets the money.

Says a lot about the ethics at Telus. Can you say....need some regulations again?

Telus who?

Wow, I wrote a response on this thread 2 years ago and it is still going! A lot has happened since I wrote my article. Everything I said still holds true if not more! Telus has had a strike and a lot of people have started to look around and see if there are alternatives. I have done a number of contracts with Telus in the company I work at and have discovered a whole lot of other problems with that company. For one they are picking up really bad hardware and pratically giving it away in their larger contracts.
The starcomm and moto q are 2 of the worst phones I have ever used. The razr is just a refurbished 1st generation model (they are in their 5 or 6th generation). Hardware in all of its divisions is at least 5 years behind. Lousy internet, crappy cell phones, etc..

As far as the fido acqisition goes, Rogers took over thousands of towers and added thousands of new ones across canada. Both are running almost flawlessly together. In the last 2 years I have not had one dropped call. I do not believe cellular carriers should lock their phones so I purchase my hardware from other sources. This has many perks including the ability to test many phones over a short time by buying and selling. I have owned 8 phones this year alone but have only paid for one.

Someone mentioned chinas use of cdma. Last year Sony entered a deal with China where all of their phones would be manufatured in China and changing over to GSM in that country would be done immediately. As of now most of China has switched over leaving Canada & USA as the major cdma customers.

I don't like any one carrier, I just refuse to be scammed by a cdma network.

And then you can just skip the cellular carrier

If you have been using open cellphones or getting European versions of units like Nokia 62...you will see a growing trend to have WiFi access on the sets. In those cases you can set up the softphone client on the cellphone, so you can use the softphone over the WiFi and bypass making calls over the cellular carrier totally, whenever you are in a hotspot. If you have a PDA you can download a Skype client and use it to make and recieve calls...all free. Only use the cellular side of your phone when you are out of a Hotspot. This works extremely well in cities like Toronto....you use your own hotspot at home, and when you are downtown use the Ontario Hydro new Hotspot network. Much better/cheaper Internet access then via any carrier like Telus and Rogers. It will not be long before AOL, Yahoo, GoogleTalk and Microsoft all have clients for PDAs/cellphones..... will not be long before WiFi will offer everyone a way to reduce their use of the cellular system.....I for one will not regret giving them less of my monies!
