BRIDGEWATER, N.S. -- The parents of a young man who was chained up in a remote Nova Scotia cabin and repeatedly raped for 10 days waited outside the courtroom as he recounted his nightmare.
The last man charged in the shocking case is being tried by a jury this week. John Leonard MacKean, 64, from Lower Sackville, N.S., is charged with sexual assault and communicating for the purposes of sex with a minor.
Police say he booked a 15-minute window to assault the blindfolded boy -- 16 years old at the time -- arranging it through text message with the boy's kidnappers.
The court heard how two men lured the boy to a remote shack in September 2012 with the promise of a painting job.
They instead chained him up, threatened to kill him and raped him repeatedly before the boy managed to escape, breaking through a boarded window.
The boy told police that a third man had also sexually assaulted him, forcing fellatio on him.

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. -- John Leonard MacKean insisted he only touched a captive boy's ***** with his hand.
The portly 64-year-old is charged with sexual assault and communication for the purposes of sex with a minor.
A jury watched MacKean's four-hour police interview tape Wednesday.
He has plead not guilty.
At one point in the footage MacKean stood up from his chair, leaned over and simulated with his hand what he said he did.
"I thought he 21, 22 ... I didn't think it would be a problem," MacKean told Cpl. Luc Cote on the video.
"He looks 12," Cote responds firmly. "I have a son who's 12 and he looks one day older than him."
The victim was 16 when he was kidnapped from Halifax, driven to a remote shack, chained up and raped by two men for 10 days in September 2012 before he managed to escape through a boarded window.
One of the kidnappers pleaded guilty and is in jail. The other is dead.

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. -- A man accused of sexually assaulting a teen chained up in a remote Nova Scotia cabin insists if he had known the boy was being held against his will, he would have rescued him.
"He (the captor) was about 120 lbs. I'm about 240. I can bench press 100 lbs. If I felt that young man (the victim) needed to be out of there, he would have been out of there," John Leonard MacKean, 64, said on the stand in his own defence Thursday.
In September 2012, a 16-year-old boy was taken from Halifax to a remote shack, held in chains and raped for 10 days by two men. He eventually managed to free himself and escape through a boarded window.
One man pleaded guilty and the other is dead.
The teen said a third man arrived about halfway through his captivity, and performed oral sex on him.
The boy testified he was blindfolded so was unable to identify the man.

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. — A man accused of sexually assaulting a kidnapped teen boy who was chained up in a remote Nova Scotia cabin was found guilty Friday.
The jury also found John Leonard MacKean, 64, guilty of communicating for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from a person under 18.
Two men took the 16-year-old boy from Halifax to a remote shack in 2012, chained him and raped him for 10 days. He eventually managed to free himself and escape through a boarded window.
One man pleaded guilty and the other is dead.
The teen told police a third man arrived about halfway through his captivity and performed oral sex on him.
The boy testified he was blindfolded so he was unable to identify the man.
Court heard how MacKean had paid the boy's captors for 15 minutes of assault time. Text messages discussing the business deal were shown in court.
MacKean admitted in court he touched the teen's ***** with his hand, but that he believed the teen was there of his own free will and was older than 16.
MacKean is scheduled for sentencing June 23.
