Brodeur, Fleury, Luongo

Boyle, Doughty, Keith, Neidermeyer-C, Pronger, Seabrook, Weber

P. Bergeron, Crosby, Getzlaf, Heatley, Iginla, Marleau, Morrow, Nash
Perry, M. Richards, E. Staal, Thornton, Toews.

Team Canada was chosen this morning for 2010 winter olympics, I'm surprised there
was no interest on this board for this team.
They are a fine group of athletes, and should make canada proud, win or lose.
Of course canadians won't accept anything less than a gold medal, but I will
be happy to see a great tournament, and hope all play well, and the top teams
battle each other hard for that medal.

Canucks have players on the swedish team, german team, finish team, canadian team,
american team.

Yes, he has earned everyone's respect, but I don't think
any of the goalies chosen would let anyone down, they
are all up to the challenge.
The starting goalie hasn't been chosen yet, we all assume
it will be brodeur, but I guess it depends how the three
of them play from here on.

Many kudos for posting this, talloola, thank you for reminding us. I too am happy to support our Olympic teams win or lose, and hope that the games prove to be nail-biters. :canada:

Its a talented line up but I think a lot of fans are a little "wait and see" after the flop in the 2006 games. The gold medal in Salt Lake was a heady, exciting thing but the disappointment in Turin, with many of the names on this roster, was huge.

no one can guarantee a gold medal, or any other medal, but
I know the team will perform better than the last, as
Gretzky made poor choices when picking players, depended
too much on the 'ole boys' when making his choices, and
didn't balance out the team, and take on some of the young
talented players.
Not enough speed and drive on that team.

Steve should publicly apologize to Ryan Smyth and a handful of other Canadian players for picking Eric Staal over them. I can only assume his cross continent travels "scouting" the players, was just a facade and that, for all intents and purposes, the team was picked last summer. I can overlook the disgrace of putting Niedermayer and his team worst -9 rating on this squad (simply because of his history) but Staal doesn't deserve the same slack.

I was surprised to see Niedermayer on the team, let alone be introduced as captain.

Well I hate to be disagreeable here, but I would never have
picked ryan smyth, (just like picking burrows for the team), they are similar players.
And, I picked neidermeyer long ago on the team, and for
captain as well.
I like the balance of young and veteran on this team.
Of course they could pick a second team that would be
competetive as well.
Stevie said that they debated right up to 7 in the morning
of the day they announced team, so it was not cut and
dried, and they also have a long list of players, (who
are next in line) and that list has to be sent to the doping
committee for clearance in case of changes, as injuries
could happen.
I made up my own list 4 times in the last few months, and
made changes each time.
Stevie and I aren't on a first name basis, just couldn't remember
how to spell his last name. lol

I like Ryan Smyth too, but was he not injured back in November and is just now due to return to play? To pick him for the first team would be taking chances wouldn't it?

Isn't this the same Neidermeyer who took half a year off last year?

Heatley and Thornton? These are the hard working guys?

Aside from Nash and Crosby we could make a second team that's equally competitive.

Yeah that's the same neidermeyer.
He's a b.c. guy, very intelligent player, will lead the
team well, not having a banner year, but neither is
anaheim, and some other teams where players were chosen.
I would never give the C to pronger, too much of a loose
canon. Neidermeyer is calm and cool and smart, and will
keep things stable, skates great, and will keep the young
guys confident and positive, and will calm them down when
things get hairy.
I love this team, one of my favourite youngs guys is toews,
plays a great to way game, mentally tough, skates great,
scores goals, is also a captain at his young age.

I don't really have a problem with the team (save Staal). I just wish they picked guys based on what they are doing now and not what they have done in the past. I mean, to leave off the highest scoring D-man in the entire league (Mike Green)tells me the team was picked on historical instead of current merit. We are still a favorite for gold but we really shouldn't short ourselves this way.
