Had any experience of teaching English to children of elementary school age?

But that probably doesn't really matter yet, as I'm more concerned whether it's important to start from teaching the grammar or not. Unfortunately the case here heaps of Irish would blame the bad teaching by say focusing on grammar when Irish Gaelic was taught and it's the excuse for heaps of Irish for not speaking it fluently cause they didn't have good learning experience they'd say.
I'm going to be in a volunteering programme teaching children in elementary school English as a 2nd language and just wonder how you guys say parents or teachers or even volunteers who ever taught English either to your own children, someone else's, foreigners (children especially) as a second language respectively.
