I'm pretty sure working the Tar Sands now accounts for about half the wealth that comes into Newfoundland, through the legions of Newfie migrant workers that toil in them. I have a father, uncles, and countless friends and relations that owe their livelihood and well being to those north Albertan gulags, and I say god bless them.

From what I've seen and heard about, the tar sands in Alberta are well managed and as environmentally sound as possible, with the added bonus of adding to canada's wealth as a whole, and keeping the economies of the East running. God bless alberta, and long may the roughnecks in the west shift Tar.

Excellent point. In response to Karlins post where only people in McMurray are getting rich, I respectfully say to you that you should have stayed longer in Alberta when you were here (even though your philosophies probably were at odds with about 95% of the people of this province). There are a huge number of people making money "off the patch", and a lot of them are not in the north. There are so many spin off industries and jobs that it would take too long to post them. Leave the tarsands alone, they are doing just fine, and leave Alberta alone, we are doing just fine, and as a result, are contributing more to Canada THAN ALBERTA MAKES OFF THE OIL PATCH EACH YEAR. So you are getting what I would consider to be more than your share, but hey, that's just the type of kind and sharing folk we are here in the best province in the country.!!!!!

Well Karlin, I'll agree with you. I am however heading to Alberta myself to take advantage of the situation. Why wouldn't anyone. I do believe it is wrong what they are doing in comparison to the emmissions and energy consumption they are using, but that is what the elite group wants.
But for all of you out there that believe the university scientist that say there is no global warming, you are all f#@ked, because it is happening. As far as iARTthere4iam statement goes.....buddy you are going to have a lot more than just worrying about having to go to Florida for the winter, when it come to global warming. I have lived in the prairies all my life and i have seen the changes for myself in 40 years. Longer periods without rain and when it does rain it pours down in buckets, declining snow pack, earlier springs, later falls, more intense storms, more hail, funnels clouds where there has never been funnel clouds before...... to the average city person some of these things sure sound good but believe me none of it is leading to anything good.
Now back to my point about not believing university scientist......They are all funded by, and this is what i would like to discuss with Karlin the most and we should have a seperate thread on, funded by the elite group that control everything that takes place in the western world and for the most of it ...the entire world. These elite group of people control who gets voted into and out of power. It is not Bush or Chayneye that want global warming it is the Rockefellers and or Rothschild elites that want it. They create the diseases of the world and they create the cures for the diseases of the world, they create the wars of the world and profit tremendously from them. Everything you see and read has been created by these families of world wealth. They control the banks and treasuries, and the governments and dictate everything that goes on in this world, and the sooner everyone realizes this the sooner there will be hope for this world. Anyone interested in discussing this more please let me know so we can start a new thread and expose these people for what they are

Yr right. Global warming is a reality. And if Alberta is a major contributor, of course, it will have to be punished. It's not the only one. Hopefully, in the next ten years we'll have an international group formed to enforce the penalties necessary to make individuals and organizations change their ways.

The tar sands generate tens of thousands of jobs across Canada and add billions of dollars to the GDP. Cancelling this would utterly destroy the Albertan economy, but cause oil prices to sky rocket, which would affect the rest of Canada in due time.
As for global warming, many believe it is happening, but a lot of people question just how myuch of it is human activity. Lately I've heard some stuff about water vapour helping alter climate change, as well as water oscillating in the Ocean altering currents and what have you. If the experts can't agree, then what can the rest of us say?
