I take no stance on the management of the present day seal hunt. I do however think that there is a disproportionate ratio of seals to fish in most areas and this is largely due to overfishing and poor management of commercial fisheries. Therefore, I do think a well managed seal hunt is not an unreasonable thing.

i spent time in newfoundland. they know about sealing there. and they're not fans of these idiots. Even in canterbury, england, we saw a bunch of people with a trestle table with posters of a whitecoat seal looking cute, surrounded by a blood red border, and the words "the true face of canada". my wife laughed for hours.

I always get a chuckle at outsiders critiquing issues like that. Like the protest organizations that get up in arms over dogs being used as food in China.

someone once told me they beat the dogs to death to make them taste better. Sounds like they were trying to make me think it was bad to eat them.

In their defense, even though I don't agree with their organization, PETA does fight for a huge range of animals, not just the cute ones.

Yep, except the two legged ones. You know that humans have too much money and free time when organizations like PETA exist. Hey, here's an idea: spend the same amount of time and money saving people from starvation. Try that for 4 years, and then you can tackle the issue of animal rights.

That sounds like typical Peta lies. We tenderize beef to make it taste better on this side of the pond by beating it after death... why would the Chinese do it to a live animal? Even if one was callous enough to club a dog around for a half-hour before death, it would be time-consuming and a waste of energy. People always harvest animals in the easiest way. To do otherwise would be ridiculous.

And when people other than starlets, strippers, half-baked musicians and community college dropout "scientists" oppose the Seal hunt, I'll listen. When the other side of the debate is naked and cavorting about the streets of Ottawa, well, I''ll keep mowing down on flipper pie.
