Oh no, that's horrible. I'm glad no one was hurt though But how terrible for all the vendors and for the whole community. Especially coming into harvest time too.

exactly holy wow....glad no animals lost their lives, they must have been so terrified if any were housed there...doubtful on a long weekend though....however on the up side, it's a resilient community, get some Mennonites out there and they will put the building together in the fields and when the crap is cleared away it could be raised in a week maybe less...

It will be interesting to see how the fire started.

Just felt awful when I read it.

That's likely true. I'll not be surprised if I hear a temporary market setup somewhere really quickly.

I know, it's gets me because it's a farmers market...so it's the small farmer for the most part and they are so close to the edge as it is. Although my family have never really been farmers, I did mostly grown up in the rural areas of SWO, so I know these folks, know how hard they work, and what the harvest really means to them.

it just turns your stomach, it is devastating news... it is a wonderful, wonderful market, very modern... they saved the other buildings so that is wonderful, it took hours by the look of it...the flames are so high...so upsetting

A big market?
yes, that is just one building: The main 24,000 square foot building houses food vendors on the first level, and the second level is devoted to home decor and crafts. About 60 businesses are affected.

We have ours outdoors in summer then it moves into a community center in winter. I don't go that often as we have a decent sized garden. If I do go it's to buy honey.

That is our largest one, then we have one in downtown Kitchener as well as the Cambridge Market.

It will deeply affect our huge Mennonite community:

I bet. Hutties make up a big portion of RFM. I was just reading they are going a little artsy fartsier with "Market Under the Stars" is an evening market with a food-and wine-tasting component to it and local music. Maybe I will wander down, try some of their wares and look at polished rocks and various other moonbeam items and do some busking.

I hope Warterloo will build bigger and strong with good fire suppression. Markets are an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two milling about.
Me too. But it's huge now though Pete, and piggybacks off of the town of St. Jacobs. It is a huge tourist draw from miles around.

You'd have to see it to know what I mean. It has stock yards and I am now hearing that's what they concentrated on saving last night...the animals

That was just the main building and it employes soooooooooooo many people all week long...just that building along 60 venders.

Fresh veg is available here year round at the garden markets out in the valley 20km away. The drive out to the valley and getting an ice cream and some fries in fall is kinda of a tradition when the leaves turn. Last year my my sis did my niece's B-day in the valley at this "Pumpkin Hollow" thing with a corn maze and a bunch of activities. If I were a kid, it would be a blast. My older nephew spent most of his time macking on Princess Penelope the Pumpkin Princess. I must admit, she is pretty. Pumpkin Hollow - Home

Will do. If I remember to take a camera I'll PM some photos..
