I don't think that Montana Senator Baucus understands. They lost. They signed an agreement that is dependent on a certain set of rules. They have to follow those rules. If they won't follow those rules, they are in violation af the agreement and we can grab them by the nuts an squeeze.

Nope, that's anti-Bird amendment...if they won't follow the rules, we get to cause harm to their genitalia.

As much as it sounds good, how do you plan to do that?

Imposing similar tariffs sounds fine, until one realizes that will only drive world-wide energy prices higher, which we will take up the dirt-chute as much as they will.
"Shutting off the tap" will soon result in "Corporal Bubba-Joe", standing guard at Portage and Main.

Think it can't happen? Ask Saddam.....

It isn't shutting off the tap though, Ten Packs, it's just charging a bit more for the water that comes out of it. Two months of high energy prices, especially electricity and gas because that is what powers their industry, and the softwood problem would disappear.

They can't invade us because the entire world would come to our aid in a second...not for altruistic reasons either, the rest of the world also wants access to our resources.

It's way past time to play hardball with these guys.

In a word.... Bullsh*t!!!

The "rest of the world" cares only SLIGHTLY more about us than America, with the exception of 80-year-old Dutch. It's high-time we all realized that much of the world LIKES us, they RESPECT us..... but if push came to shove (whether they would draw the ire of America) - they'd grow oddly silent.

Ya Know Rev I really don't no a bunch about anti- Bird amendment. But I do know how to count.

USA is our biggest trading partner, if Canadian Government put trade sanctions on them it would cause more harm to Canadians than to American Government and Americans. The damage to our GDP would be negative and yes we do have resources and yep there probably is a rule that they can't just come and take it but remember there is also a rule in fact an order that they can't do what they are doing with the softwood deal ....Hmmmmmm see any simalarities? Kinda makes me Hmmmmmm. But then again I could be missing somthing and if I have I am willing to learn.

I am listening.

I always lose my sense of direction down there. It's not as bad as the tunnels under the Health Sciences complex but it's close.

BTW, folks - it's "BYRD", with a "Y".

The same clown that got millions in federal funding to open the West Virgina Port Authority, as I am told.

(hint to the geographically-impaired.... West Virginia is totaly land-locked)

It would hurt them worse and it would hurt them more quickly. It's likely that just the threat would be enough, but if we actually put an export tax on energy products, the US would fold very quickly and begin following the rules.

Our energy...the type, how it delivered, and where it goes...makes it a very strategic resource. Without our energy it is doubtful that the US could even feed itself. It certainly couldn't produce much of anything. Their economy is very much dependent on us and if we said we were going to raise prices even 10%, the US would be in huge economic trouble.

RE: Softwodd Lumber Dispu

There are other places in the world we can sell to. We really need to stop being so dependend on these people who do not and will not honour deals signed. They lose so many times and don't honour agreements? Yet if roles were reversed they would be screaming to high heaven etc. America is just being their typical bullying self.

Why would anybody ever sign a deal with America? It seems any deal you sign with them is not worth the paper its written on. And yet, they wonder why they are not well thought of in the world.

We should start export duties on energy, wood etc.
