SYDNEY (Reuters) - A smoking ban took effect on Sunday at pubs and clubs in Australia's two most populous states, but it's the timing of the measure that's riling smokers the most.

The temperature has dropped to 19C. Get out the parkas.

I spent Christmas in Southern Spain one year with an Ex of mine - we were sitting outside eating our Christmas day lunch in shorts/swimming cossies, while the local spaniards were walking round in parkas

The point being if it is "your" winter it is cold for you not necessarily for someone from another colder country.

Um, one would have to be microcephalic to not already know that.

So, still firmly in the class of "so what."

As an ex-smoker(for twenty odd years) I can understand the feelings of those driven outside for their addiction. Been there done that. Now, as a non-smoker, I see no reason why I should be forced to share someone else's medically dangerous addiction

I'm perfectly aware that it is still in the realm of "so what" its even in the area of "who cares".

However there is probably no requirement for you to be quite so bombastic, solely due to me not adding on to the end of my original post " I couldn't give a flying monkeys whether they stand outside or not, smoking or not".

I've been both a smoker and an ex smoker and I agree with what you are saying.
Something I don't understand is why market forces have not driven the changes, it has required legislation to be passed in the majority of cases.

Market forces are impotent against the driving force of addiction.

Alcohol and tobacco, both addictive substances have gone together for decades (centuries even) so prying the two apart is no small task.

If anything, the market forces are promoting more smoking and drinking, not less.
