Let's not forget, though, that percentage wise, the majority of Canadians are white after all. So it's only natural that parliament will reflect that. If we want more diversity in parliament, then let's do it at the polls so that Harper will have more minority from which to choose in the first place.

Not certain what you are referring to here. I think you argued that the mosaic was working and i asked how and I said without evidence you really had no argument. An opinion yes. You offered nothing to invalidate. And i still don't see how these links support the argument that the mosaic is working in Canada as they deal with the US. One is a critque of the US.

And if the demographic scenario works out the way suggested in the article Jay posted? Canada’s birth rate is flat and to maintain the economy and sustain growth large scale immigration will be necessary. In the near future whites will be in the minority. And if they cannot deliver at the polls should their interests be ignored?

The Charter already recognizes the importance of diversity and this is articulated in policy through employment equity. Maybe something equivalent to employment equity would work to promote a diverse cabinet.

both Cabinets, in my opinion, lack ethnic diversity to any appreciable extent.

How would the cabinet be stronger with more people of colour.
As one of them coloured folks I'm very confused. Sometime I hear that there is no difference between races and that we are one race, the human race and we are all equal and free Canadians, blah, blah, blah.

So based on that premise, what is wrong with Harper's cabinet? I mean it is made up of 27 Canadian humans.

If we are equal, if we are supposed to be one people, then what does it matter how much pigment cabinet ministers have? I'm more concerned with their integrity, their intelligence and the competency.

Personally, I'm not interested in cabinet that makes a nice colourful picture.

Exactly what interests of the minority community are being ignored? If we loaded up parliament, with Chinese, what new Chinese issues would be addressed? If we loaded up parliament with Indos, what brown issues would be addressed? If we loaded up parliament with Blacks, what black issues would be addressed?

If there are community specific issues, is the national parliament of Canada the place to be resolving these things?

Again, if we are all equal and the same, then there cannot be race related issues, they would just be issues.

Our leaders have chosen to reject a progressive model of multiculturalism, and so now we must face the consequences of having a systemically divisive society in which things like gender and skin colour are being used to measure of a person's worth in society.

Its a sad state of affairs when reverse-racism is able to slip under the radar under the guise for quotas.

I think Harper is doing a lot of good things for Canada like the accountability act and lowering the gst.... I think it's a positive way for us and as long as it's positive I will continue to vote conservative.... I think our cabinet is somewhat fine.... I think the senate should be elected so the people can decide and I don't think it will have an impact on who will get in there... I just think it's more fair if the people decide....

I also want to add that I don't vote for people because of how they look... I don't think it's got anythign to do with racial... I just think it's more fair if our cabinet is done by letting the majority decide...
