It was a Tongue in cheek assessment of what would probably happen if Canada grabbed Putin! The reason why the Yanks would get the first call is because of geography and history has situated them as the closest neighbors. 8O

If my house were on fire, I would call upon my nearest neighbors first, then go look for help if none were forth coming.

In my neighbourhood, there was a small house fire a year or so ago and the NIEGHBOURS had it out before the fire dept arrived!

Before WWII, the US was very isolationist and refused to get involved in the War, except to make money! (Henry Ford was pro-nazi and very eager to support the Germand Bund which operated openly in the US before WWII!)

Neo con isolationists have called for the return of the US to an Isolationist stance, get out of the UN and limit the US to trade when absolutly necessary! Why is it immediately assumed that we'd have to go to the US for help, Martin? Russia is even more prone to international influence than the USA, considering that they are trying to modernise and westernise even as Putin leads them back into dictatorship.

Well, Rev, the bad old US is the closest neighbour and I am sure you would want to put the multilateral agreements to work! I don't know if Russia is more prone to International influence, I would not want to push the Russian Bear into the Corner and play with "her" cubs (Putin). Russia is in change and has been for the last 15 years. Bush and Putin seem to be agreeable since Putin was the first European leader to sya his election was a "Good Sign"!!!!!! Birds of a feather flock together! Maybe Putin can talk Bush into Kyoto!

Canadian authorities who arrested US president George W. Bush in Custody

Canadian authorities who had arrested US president George W. Bush in Ottawa on November 30, 2004 are now in custody and most of Canada is under US occupation as forces advance on the last remaining stronghold of Canadian Resistance at North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The battle for Regina was heavy but subsided after the encircled city was ringed off and bypassed, the town of Saskatoon surrendered this afternoon after the Mayor and Town Council heard the heavy artillery in the distance and saw the forces abandon the town as they ran North.

Free Alberta Defence Forces have cleared out loyalist forces from Lloydminister and are proceeding down the Yellowhead highway under air support from the Montana Air National Guard.

Steven Harper who seized power Saturday in a spectacular show of force in Edmonton has declared Alberta a Free State and has applied to the US Congress for rocognition. Reports from Number 10 Downing Street have been confirmed with this terse statement on the situation:

"Under the Treaty of 1782, 1815, 1818 which covers disputes between the United States and Great Britian, later assumed by the Dominion of Canada, all disputes are to be settled by arbitration and the Heads of the Respectives States are to Recognized and allowed free passage with in the agreeing states, when this provision was violated by the Unlawful act of the Canadain Government, protests by the Goveneur-General were ignored. Meanwhile, in the Maritimes, a new State has been proclaimed by the local Acadien Population in and around Grand Pre, Nova Scotia with some help from their Acadien Couisines who repulsed a squad of RCMP with heavy loses. Newfoundlers awoke to find the Navy Yard at St. John under new management as the US Navy had interdicted the vessels anchored at the pier. The Premier upon learning Labrador may be seized by the new Republic of Quebec quickly surrendered the island to the US Navy and ran up the Stars and Stripes on Signal Hill in an attempt to halt the loss of Labrador.

The Premier of Quebec has secured the frontier of Quebec and has declared Quebec to be independent as of 7:00AM this morning. The soverienty of Quebec has been ratified by the Congress of the United States meeting in emergency session in Washington, DC and a formal Treaty of Recognition is to be signed within hours at Montreal.

Eastern Ontario has been secured by members of the 10th Mountain Division and with Toronto isolated, heavy rioting was reported in Mississauga and York areas with the Windsor area facing the wrath of the Detroit area looters who could not be controlled by local OPP. US Regular forces did finally relent and let members of the Michigan Militia cross the border and start securing positions along the border and upto 50 kilometers inside Ontario. First Nations reserves at Ipperwash have secured positions upto and including Kincardine. Calm has been noticed over Western Ontario and the Bay region, in some places flags fly under white sheets to indicate that this is not a military target.

Acting President Dick Cheney mobilized the American military and all border crossings between the two nations are still closed. long lines of refugees are being asked to show restraint and remain in their homes until this action is concluded. Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin has urged for calm and cooperation in a shortwave radio and television broadcast to the Canadian people immediately after he and certian members of Parliement were captured in the liberation of Mr. George W. This decision puts a grave strain upon both our nations, and I urge calm and restraint from our American neighbours, as well as from Canadians. I have met with the cabinet, and with our colleagues in the House. This is a time of great crisis for us as a nation. Under the Emergency War Powers Act, I have asked for terms. This is necessary to guarantee our domestic security. This is not a time for panic, for lawlessness, for anything other than a responsible and sobre focus on what lies immediately ahead. The US has graciosly agreed to allow the exchange of currency at par, continue vital government programs and allow the provinces to internally rule themselves. In the case of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the predominately Acadian areas will be allowed self rule as declared.”

Prime Minister Martin also said, “President Bush has granted us generous terms under which we will see a better future."

Speculations on the American response has run the spectrum from one analyst’s prediction of an all out American invasion of Canada to a more restrained pin-point rescue mission of the President. When the course of action was decided upon, all experts thought that war in Iraq had so weakened the American military that it could be some days before the United States is ready to field a large scale military response. The response was only 24 hours old before US forces marshalled enough manpower and machinery from their so called second string that soldiers form FT. Wainwright in Alaska had secured the Alaska Highway to the Alberta border and interdicted all shipping on the British Columbia Coast!

Meanwhile, in New York, the Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Anan has urged for calm, and British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Dick Cheney has been in almost constant contact with NATO leaders and President Putin of Russia.

The group of RCMP officers, who had been standing guard, when the President was arrested was captured without incident The gunfight that broke out with the President’s secret service bodyguard during the arrest killed two bystanders and another three slightly wounded by flying debris. The RCMP officers have been detained and murder charges are pending.

The United Nations position on the illegality of the Canadian Invasion was made known this afternoon when the Security Council vetoed all action with Britian moving to table all action after reading their position on the treaty violations.

I found the entire article, parody or not, very offencive with the above quote showing the complete lack of knowledge of the writer. Since Canada brought the Constitution home from England the "English Crown" has no say whatsoever in what Canada does or does not do. The "Governor General" is no more than a figurehead and has no power, real or otherwise, over the actions of the elected Canadian government.
