The birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby next month will be announced on an historic easel at the gates of Buckingham Palace.
As soon as the future king or queen is born, a proclamation signed by doctors will be taken to the gates of the Palace and displayed on the easel within minutes.
The easel will be the same one that was used to announce the birth of Prince William himself at the gates of Buckingham Palace on 22nd June 1982. On that day thousands of people from around the world gathered at the gates to read the proclamation on the easel saying that a future king was born the day before.

The royal baby will be delivered at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, the same wing and the same hospital where Prince William himself was born, becoming the first future monarch in history to be born in a hospital.
William and Catherine do not know the gender of their child. They have decided to keep it a surprise for them, for the nation and for the world.
The baby is expected to be born on Saturday 13th July.
