Rogers is the first Canadian provider to launch MobileTV (Mobile Phones Television). And I have a chance to play with the pre-released test version on my demoline with a Nokia 6620. Here is my review. This review has also been posted in a different forum. Enjoy...

I've been playing with it after work until now, here are my comment on it with some screenshots.

While downloading the app on my 6620, I saw that there's only a few models of version that are available at the moment; V220, V180, and 6620.

Since it's pre-released application so I guess the actual release product should be better although it's already good.

Here is the ICON of MobiTV

Connecting to MobiTV, since 6620 have EDGE, so it's pretty fast for the connection, it took me less than 3 seconds get it connected to the channel.

Connection done to Discovery Channel, as you can you see, it's pretty blurry as for Video quality.

Changing the channel, right now, there's 6 channels. You can either press the number for the channel you want or press up and down to select channels.
01- BlueJay
02- Discovery
03- TLC
04- Discovery Kids
05- Commedy Time
06- Fashion TV

Some more screenshots...

I tried to Log-on to BlueJay Channel to watch their game... too bad.. their channel is Temporarily Unavailable. Shame...

Picture/Video Quality
Like I've mentioned previously, it is blurry, but it is still nice for a phone, remember my phone is 65k, I'm already amazed with it.

Sound
The sound isn't that bad, I mean, the talking match with the mouth's moving. Sometimes it has a slight delay, but it will automatically stop for one second (for buffering) and it will correct it.

Overall, for sure it's not better than YOUR own TV, (duh..) But I'm seriously pleased with it. Just like last night, I was at a dinner with my family, ah man.. it was so darn bored. I wished I had mobiTv yesterday. It will be good to have more channels such as NBAtv(I love it!), the News Channel (like CNN) and maybe the movie network. Ah well just let's hope it will happen.

So it's good to burn your time, but it will also easy to burn your DATA usage, even though it has different DATA package for MobiTV, I can tell, it's not an unexpensive features.

I haven't tried with my V600 as I guess the version for V200/V180 won't be compatible with it.

It's pre-released version, so I can't give out the URL so please do not PM or ask me to give you the URL.

my $0.02

RE: Rogers' Mobile TV - M

seems pretty cool. good to finally hear something after such a long time(nearly a month since the anouncemant by Ted rogers/nazir mohamed).

Will the clarity be superior for EDGE capable phones or will it be the same is my question, as EDGE has promised a lot and delivered very little so far...

Well.. I've tested on 2 models, Nokia 6620 and V600. And yea, 6620 is way faster than V600. However, it's still choppy. Well..it's a pre-released version for testers, it should be better than that for the actual product.

It's definately a cool feature, and kinda typical that Rogers came out with it -- being in the broadcast/specialty channel, cable and satellite industry. And on top of that, the now largest mobile provider in the country.

I hate Rogers :) But it's still cool that you can watch tv on your phone, just not a feature I really want my phone for.

Thanks for posting, kalok.

This looks like a cleverly disguised piece of advertising.

Do you consider all reviews ''like a disguised piece of advertising'' ????

Poor you, where then do you get your infos when you need advise ???
Oh, maybe you go directly to the store ?? No advertising there !!!

If you don't like the review, don't read it. And you're with which cell provider again ?????

25$ a month is a little less than what I pay for regular cable on the big TV right now. I would never dish out money for a tiny little picture but that's just me. No doubt this technology will catch on and soon everyone will be watching TV on their cell phones.

the technology doesnt seem ready for mobile television rite now. Considering that the current "video recording phones" can record blurry pixellated videos is proof of this. The only on that looks any good is the nokia 6620, otherwise forget it. Perhaps when 3G wireless comes out mobile television will get enough demand.

RE: Rogers' Mobile TV - M

I agreed, 6620 is the best phone out there for Mobile TV, however, I haven't try it with the S710a. Bigger and nicer screen might be better. It is still in pre-released version, and it's still not available for S710a yet (the software is not available) so I'll have to wait and try it out later on.
