SAN FRANCISCO – Rescuers searched Wednesday night for the bodies of three young children who were reportedly tossed in San Francisco Bay near a popular waterfront stretch in a case being investigated as a homicide, authorities said.
A man called 911 at 5:30 p.m. to report that the children were dropped from Pier 7 into the chilly water, said San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White.
"Because of the nature of the injuries, the possible fatalities, at this time this case is now assigned to our homicide unit," Police Chief Heather Fong said.
The children were believed to be under 10 years old, Fong said. Police spokeswoman Maria Oropeza said authorities were searching for three children.
Very sad and very sick. Just heard on radio (KGO San Fran) they found one body.
