Activity-specific question - if the sport requires it and there is one that fits, on it goes. The boys hate to be kicked, at any age.

triedit, if I were you, I'd talk to your son's coach and his pediatrician.
Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, if there's any chance they're going to get hit hard enough to cause damage (I have had a friend suffer a rupture), then they ought to be wearing one. Just be kind and spring for a properly fitted one every year. Making a kid play in a poorly sized cup is painful and mean!

Well, if your son's haven't descended yet then a trip to the pediatrician is definitely in order. If he's old enough for sports, they should have been down long ago.

Let him wear it around get used to it know what it's for and why he needs it. Then, it won't be a thing.
He's descended. I just checked LOL I told him to pretend I was the doctor. It was weirder for me than it was for him.

I was worried. Most boys are born with them descended, and if they aren't, they descend within the first year. It would have been a pretty big medical issue if he was playing soccer and still hadn't descended! lol.
6 yrs old... hmm... PERSONALLY, I'd say get him a cup. It's never too early to learn to play wearing the right equipment. But, then, that's from the point of view of an overprotective mom who wants to be an overprotective grandma one day. lol.
