We agree on one thing Priest when it comes to our kids better to go over board than under board. I will add to that list a keystrok prog and over the shoulder policy. Check history and do NOT allow clearing histories. This is good for cheating husbands too LOL

Candice, my middle one ended up hooked up with a 26 yearold in georgia and I had the jerk arrested. She was using her friends comp and my phone. Thats how I found him, reverse lookup on the phone bill. Harsh? damn straight thats why I created an online gated community for my members. Our children are precious and perverts are everywhere.

I attended a seminar at my youngest one's grade school put on by the local police department and it was shocking how easy it is to entrap kids if the pervert is determined. We were advised to instruct the kids to not even tell anybody what school they went to. In Canada, most kids still go to neighbourhood schools within walking distance of their homes. If the pervert gets the kids' name, and the name of the school they go to, it is easy to figure out where they live approx. For most of us normal minded people, we cannot envision such evil as child perverts stalking our kids. It literally boggles my mind!

My Computer > C: > Documents & Settings > "User Name" > Local Settings > History > Select all > delete History gone. You can block out the button from internet option, can't easily block access to the files them selves though.

Why not both? Critter figured out how to get around most my stuff except the keystroke LOL but when histories were deleted he was banished off the comp for days. Simple. You want trust? Be trustworthy.

key loggers can be deteced pretty easily via anti-spyware software or by examining the services running on the pc.

I was so panicked! She was a rebellious one anyway but to run off to GEORGIA! It was my worst nightmare. I dont care how invasive it is our kids are MOST important.

Detecting Windows Keyloggers

I get asked this question at least once a week in person and in e-mails, so it must be a topic of interest.

Those of you who own/work on/support Windows workstations and servers are well aware of the growing trend of keyloggers. Keyloggers are cute little programs that run silently in the background and record every keystroke pressed. The keystrokes are then placed in a text file, sent via e-mail, or sent over a network connection. [Note: there are lots of variations here, but these are the most common ones that I see] And I'm certainly not saying that Keyloggers are isolated to the windows world - not so. However I'm going to focus on Windows for this discussion.

The keystroke files that are sent via e-mail or a port connection over the internet are relatively easy to detect if you're monitoring your network properly. However, one of the most commonly overlooked keylogger outputs (local file) is rarely detected until time has passed and information has been compromised.

So how do you detect these keyloggers? Common sense would tell us to look at the Windows process list for something strange - but what if the keylogger is running under a process name that looks ok? Like iexplore.exe for instance?

We need to monitor hard drive writes. And one of the best utilities I've ever used for such a job is FileMon.

FileMon provides real-time monitoring of file events. If a file is accessed, FileMon will show you the date/time AND the evil little process that made the event happen. Pretty slick, eh?

Keyloggers that log locally tend to either write the file in clear text or obfuscate the text in some manner using something as simple as a basic Cesar (monoalphabetic) cipher all the way up to using PGP.

Have you encountered a keylogger in your adventures? Share your story.

Until next time

How far is that from where you love? Not that it matters, running off anywhere would be a panic situation. But I was just wondering how far you were from Georgia to get an idea of how far the rebel went.

If a child is that damned and determined to get around stuff then the comp is off limits in my book.

You should know how to detect one too in case someone marks you with one... if a root kit gets installed on your pc from random hacker on the net, good bye identity.

I didn't really have to play nazi very much at all. Basically all I did was always give them lots of love and attention. If they did something I wasn't favorably impressed with I would shun them for a while, their mother would explain that they had hurt me, and then things would settle down. About the only times I played Nazi was when they were about to do something that would cause them or someone else serious injury and even then I would always explain the dangers and the situation.

A couple from a former parish had this happen to them. They didn't know until weeks later that their credit card info was being used. Hell of a mess to clean up!

I have to play Nazi with my soon to be 15 year old. This one is like her dad, a rebel. She also suffers from a common malady called PK(preachers kid) so she has a ton of stuff to rebel against. Put it this way, imagine you go to a Catholic school and your dad is a Catholic priest.....think about it!

I always figured my role as a parent was to love them and make sure they don't come to or dish out any harm, not to be some socialistic Big Brother type overseer demanding they follow a fist-thick book of rules, wiping their noses for them, etc.
