Rogers doesnt do THAT bad of a job maintaining my service. Sure, it gets slow sometimes. But overall, Rogers has been good. I've never had Shaw so I have no clue about that services. But, in Toronto, the service is faster then ADSL and Bell has put a limit on how much one may download. I dont know what that is all about.

Shmad. You are too right. I only have 48 other people on my local node and with that said, I should be getting above-average speeds compared to the people with 250 people on their nodes. Still, we get very little upgrades, very bad tech support, terrible speeds and downtime quite often.

I would go with DSL, but it's just easier for me to stay with cable right now. Unfortunately.

I had cable but it was too slow most of the time.Cable (shaw) seemed not much faster than my old 56k a lot of the time. I must be in a bad area. I actually went to bell express vue. I wanted more tv channels. but u need a dial up isp that supports it. a little pain. but they assured me it will be better in the near future. I find it faster than cable but not sure if its better or faster than adsl.

Both cable and dsl run head to head. And both have major weaknesses across the board. My personal experience with DSL isn't that great, and same thing with cable. It seems their tech support falls behind, their speeds are very slow, downtime is terrible and satellite, well... I've never tried satellite. But you're probably better to stay with satellite for now, so long as they dont impose a bitcap.

Tech support has nothing to do with cable and DSL, nor does down time those are both problems specific to the proivder not the technology. As for Speeds it depends on whom your provider is and what speed package you buy as well as your local loop (for DSL) and your node (for cable).

Eh, I'm just going with my experience. I agree that DSL and cable are both more developed than satellite based services.

your probabley right same with a T3. Then who or what type is faster? Sometime I swear Shaw Hi Speed (if u call it that) is no faster than my old 56k modem. I am buying a Bell dish so maybe their internet is quicker?

It might be quicker. I'd personally stick with cable.. Good satellite service can be costly, and most services us dialup as it's upload..

There's always ups and downs when it comes to the current modern broadband internet protocols..

DSL is depends how close or far you are from the central office.

Cable depends on how many people are using it in your community (more specifically, how many people are on your node)... And in Rogers case, it depends on if they've done any upgrades in your area in the past 7 years. :p

#1) Check your terms of service. You get what you agreed to pay for. In theory :x

#2) This is Canada... we don't have the same laws as you in India. Since icenet is an IN domain.

#3) Why would you get Internet on cable if its on 10k?!

DSL is much better if you are using your internet all day long. ie, you are sitting and downloading all the time. you have a steady dl/ul limit. With Cable, it goes slower and slower as more of your neighbors turn there computers on and start surfing.

Of course, DSL depends on how far you are from the Central Office (CO).

I prefer DSL over Cable anytime.

moghrabi, i think everybody has a differing opinion that dsl VS. cable. I personally use cable internet and i find it fast all the time. it does not matter what time it is, i get a speeding fast connection.

i think it depends solely on your area. how far you are from a datacentre vs. if your neighborhood is busy.

This can continue forever...

It's simple to decide...

If you download like a crazy maniac go for dsl they can't hunt you down since your dsl modem is not being tracked for bandwidth...

Cable modem on the other hand is a no no if you are going to download like a maniac.... YOU WILL GET TRACKED since your modem usage is being tracked with the serial number...

One more thing...

DSL tends to slow down if you have more than 3 phones connected to the line since they share up the frequency..

Cable modems will get toasted if you receive too much of data... Like me... I already toasted 2 routers and a cable modem just for downloading... LOL that's about 300 GIGS in one month...
