I would not count Martin out just yet. Harper has not capitalized as well as he thought he would. He is only 4-5% ahead of Martin in the two most recent polls and with the margin of error it could be a dead heat now.

Yea just remember folks, if you can't decide on a party leader or a party then read up on your ridings' candidates, and find out which one of them would best represent you. Just another thing to consider. Not to mention that when you vote you are actually voting for one of the candidates on your ballot so unless you are in bed with a particular party or party-leader then it makes a lot of sense to take a look at the guy who is most benefited by your vote.

Yea just remember folks, if you can't decide on a party leader or a party then read up on your ridings' candidates, and find out which one of them would best represent you.

This is particularily important since we are likely to have another minority government. Individual MPs have a much larger voice in a minority situation whether they belong to one of the mainstream parties, an alternative party, or are sitting as an independent.

Yah i see it hard to count Paul martin out just yet. Just look at the last election, the scandal was all over the news and he and his liberals were still given a large number of the steats.

I think maybe Pauly should be starting on that speech, he has been kicked so bad that he thinks he's going forwards when he is going backwards. I really do not understand how people will vote for a party that has proven to be corrupt and incompetent, as opposed to a party that is always subject to unfounded and untrue allegations about so called hidden agendas, etc., yet if you look at the platform they want to lower taxes, provide the maritimes with the same resource deal as Alberta, and give more democratic rights back to the members of parliament we send there to supposedly represent us. If you want proven liars and crooks over others who have not done anything wrong, I guess you really do get what you deserve.

Yeah, 'cause the Conservatives have such a spotless record. I've mentioned Mulroney already...he still holds the record for most corrupt government in Canadian history. I mentioned the fact that Harper was telling lies on TV the other night. Have I mentioned that your justice critic has admitted to breaking Manitoba election law? How about your foreign affairs critic (and ex-leader) who tried to intimidate a lawyer in Alberta, then used provincial funds to pay for the lawyers who represented him in court? How about that MP out west who demanding cheques from his constituents before he would represent them.

That's without getting their greasy little fingers on the real money. I can just imagine how honest they'll be then.

Paul Martin is down, but not out. Stephen Harper might have really put his foot in his mouth this time. I mean, he has already proclaimed that he will force an election, despite 61% of Canadian being opposed to it. Now his support has plateaued and is starting to fall.

Paul Martin's support is already starting to trend upwards (except in Quebec), expecially in Ontario where he currently has an eight point lead in the polls.

As for Quebec, well the Liberals have 3 years to rebound before the Quebec Provincial election and probably 4 or 5 years till the next referendum. In the short term, I don't see a sweep of Quebec as a threat. What real power do they have?

For all you conservatives, if you can't win Ontario, it will be Stephen Harper who will be on his way out.

Now if Belinda Stonach was leader, I think your support in Ontario would be much higher. That's just my opinion. She seems to be the right mix of left and right that appeals to Ontarians.

I thjink both Martin and Harper will be gone unless one of them pulls off a majority...fat chance of that happening.

Harper has had several chances to win an election, and hasn't. He hasn't broken through in Ontoario. With this scandal and Liberal government that has been in power for ever, he should be 15 or 20 points up in the polls. He will have no power in a minority government because his policies are at odds with the three other parties.

Martin took a majority and turned it into a minority last time. This time, instead of building on that minority, he'll make it smaller or give it to the Conservatives.

The only real remaining question is if either party wants to be the first to enter a rebuilding phase when there is a minority government.

I agree. She does not come across as a real hardliner as Harper. Hell she even supports SSM and is a hell of a lot better to look at than Harper.. :wink: That being said I still vote NDP come hell or high water.

I commend the Prime Minister for continuing to demonstrate fiscal
prudence while at the same time embracing sound social policy. The social
policy acceleration announced by the Prime Minister and Mr. Layton yesterday
should be viewed as an investment in our future, our children's future and the
future of our country. It is time to stop playing politics and to start
governing. The Prime Minister and Mr. Layton clearly recognize this. It is a
shame that others do not.
